My chihuahua was in heat in june and her nipples and "downstairs" got very swollen, I have a male chihuahua also that I wanted to breed, just not quite this early. The swelling has not gone down yet though and it's almost the middle of August. Could she be pregnant, is it enough to take her to the vet? I just hate to bother them if it's just me worrying.

Excuse me her "VULVA" for lil miss st. lady. Only reason I didn't put that was because I had a brain lapse at the time and couldn't think of the word to use. I do that from time to time thanks. Thanks to all of you who HELPED and to the 1 that felt it necessary to be a B**** (sure knew the right word for that one) go find something better to do than bash people. All I wanted was to know if these were enough signs to be concerned enough to take her to the vet. And I will be calling them as soon as they open for an appointment.

Like evereyone has said - go to the vet - they can palpate to tell if she is pregnant - call the vet - different vets like to palpate at different times - about a week before she is due have X-rays done so you know how many puppies she is going to have so that you know if she has had them all or not when she is whelping - Chihuhuas can have whelping problems because of their big heads, there is a chance she could need a C-section - just keep that in the back of your mind (start saviong now for the chance that she could need it - if she doesn't then you have saved $ then - not to scare you - if she is starting to have problems whelping call the vet ASAP - you don't want to wait to long, that can mean death for a pup or two. Mom should take care of eveything for the most part when they are born, just watch her. But this is not to be a family affair, she needs her privacy, if she feels threated (ie too many people or children around) she can slow down her labor and take longer to deliever - talk to your vet about everything diet, puppies first shots, etc

YA is not the place to do your research. If you wanted to breed these types of questions should have already been discussed with a mentor or at the very least a vet.
You are asking a bunch of strangers whether or not your dog could be pregnant, well how would we know. Did you attempt to breed them and did they tie? Did you know that once a female goes into heat her VULVA and nipples do not shrink back to their original size? They always remain a bit larger after that first heat.
You have no clue when it comes to breeding so you should spay your dog if you are too lazy to do research about the breeding process. BTW, if she was in heat in june, then she would be close to whelping if she did get pregnant. Gestation in dogs is about 9 weeks.

Her "downstairs" is swollen? Look if you think you are mature enough to breed, you should at the very least be able to use the word "VULVA" without turning red. Take the dog to the vet and have it spayed. You obviously don't know what you're doing and you could kill the damn thing. Then GROW UP!!!!
From you I will take that as a compliment!!!!!! Thanks! Downstairs..............sheeeeesh

Have her checked by the vet , they'll know if she's pregnant. Small breeds often have trouble whelping, and often need c-sections. Also do as much research on whelping as possible & don't be afraid to call the vet when your worried.

this would be a good time ot take her in. it's better to be safe than sorry. Also is it possible seh may have been bred with another dog???
Also is the male smaller than teh female as well as teh background of teh male at least 3 generations back
If not the pups could be to big for her to carry and deliver and she and or the pups could die or she may need a c section

take your dog to the vet to be sure. if they have to test if a dog is pregnant, they'll confirm it. I'm not sure if there a home pregnancy test for dogs for my mom tried to a human verison on a friend dog check to see if a dog is pregnant. I'm not kidding that happened! We didn't get a result, but we found out weeks later. Still, talk to a vet to check if your dog is pregnant and the care needed.

Take her to the vet - don't worry about bothering them. Worrying is often warranted, and you'll want to know how many puppies you're expecting as well as some information on whelping.

Definitely take her to the vet. She would whelp nine weeks after breeding, and if she is pregnant, you need to be prepared for the litter.
