Wait, there's a third one that says Satan was the serpent that told Eve to eat the apple. That one is my favorite fairy tale...

The Bible doesn't say exactly what God's role was in the fall other than to say that He ordered Adam not to eat of the tree and that Eve and Adam disobeyed God.
Since God exists outside of the dimension of time that He created and He knows all things it is obvious that He knew that the fall was going to occur. Since God allowed it to happen and allowed Eve to be deceived, He apparently included the fall in his plans.
But God is not the author of sin, nor does He tempt anyone, so people can only guess at the reasons why God knowingly allowed the fall to happen.

My friend that is why I always thank my God for the Atheists. You made my day with this question. Many times you have the ability to hit the nail right on the head, and in my view you did it again.
Can you imagine or would you guess that I, a hard line "NO" who has pestered you with emails would be for a change reaching out and thanking you for clearly expressing your view? I am because I see that it is the confusing Christians who are really putting a big stumbling block in the way of their own supposed truths. Too many want to teach what they do not understand or too many want to be in control when such is not their job in my view.
I do rejoice when one who does not believe has a valid reason for not even wanting to join in all the confusion because of the actions of those who say with their lips they believe but their actions prove otherwise. This should be a wake-up call, but I am sure it will not happen.
Again, thanks for the great question and do have a good day.

Lol...that'll never happen because too many people have too many interpretations of the Bible, therefore making each and every interpretation true, since the Bible is the Truth of all Truths (or something like that) that means God created the Universe in both 6 24 hour days as WELL AS a billion or so years...A&E did what God preordained as WELL as being it their own fault....so those who think that the Bible is 100% literal, then EACH AND EVERY Interpretation of the Bible is real....mind-boggling isn't it?

They can't agree on the fall of man, freewill vs. predestination, the origins of Cain's wife, other survivors of the flood, the rapture (Matthew vs. 1 Cor) and a whole host of issues.

Impossible. The bible is like horoscopes, purposefully written to be open to a million different interpretations.
Even literalists disagree.

That's the problem with the bible and Christianity. They are moving targets so they are harder to shoot down.

Please dont reject it all. You are loved so much by Christ you Creator. God made us with free will so we could choose to love Him. He dosnt want us to be pupets on a string. He gave Adam and Eve free will and they were deceived. We now fall under grace because Jesus took our punishment and nailed it to the cross.

It was BOTH, and just as you stated.
It was God's plan (He is all knowing), and it was also A&E's free will (which God already knew).
Why can't YOU understand that?
