It actually freaks me out. Sometimes I will sit and think that one day I won't be going to work, or coming home to my husband, or eating at my favorite restaurant. One day none of this will exist (at least for those that are dead). I do believe in God and I go to a non-denominational church.

Does anybody else feel the same way? Serious answers please.

Both of my in-laws taught me a lot about dying as I witnessed their death process. My father-in-law would frequently say that death is a necessary part of living. Nothing to fear except the fact that we each tend to fear the unknown. My mother-in-law died last year of pancreatic cancer and showed me how to die with dignity. When we would try to say how sorry we were she would say, "Why be sorry." They both lived their faith, trusted in it, and had dignity in dying.

Someone once explained death in this manner. Have you ever fallen asleep as a child and found yourself in another place when you awoke? That's what it's like to die.

I hope you can reconcile your fears with your faith.

May all be at peace.

John

Recently I was diagnosed with TWO terminal illnesses with only a 50% change to be alive 4 years from now...I have had lots of time to ponder this very same question and although I have accepted my fate and have decided to make EVERY DAY special until that time comes, I DO wonder "WHAT IF".. all the time... I am not sure exactly WHAT I believe in--I WANT to believe in an afterlife and all that, but I'm just not sure--maybe it's just something to make death a little easier to take... maybe it's not anything at all... but here's the most important thing----we all die...no one can escape it....what happens after... IF anything will just have to be found out when that time comes.... until then--I will make the very best of the time I have left.

Yeah, life goes on without any of us, and hardly gives us a second thought. In a weird way, it helps to know that you can't do ANYTHING to prevent it, and we're ALL in the same boat together.

Think about how insignificant the average life is in the grand scheme of things. If you're extremely lucky, you might be known by a few hundred people who will mourn your death.

The vast majority of people will never amount to anything, never become famous, never change the world in any significant way, and never even be known for much more than (if they're lucky) leaving a few descendants to carry on their genetic line.

But existence will go on without you, and part of who you are will live on in your children, your accomplishments, the memories people have of you, and the contributions you made towards the progress of the human race.

All in all, it really makes you appreciate how rare, and precious and FLEETING the experience of sentient life is.

(PS - I REALLY, REALLY feel sorry for the poor answerer above me. I know many dead people who would have given anything to not have died, and to have the gift of life you so flippantly dismiss as valueless.)

Nope, don't Bother me none.
I AM Looking Forward to going to Planet Heaven with All of my Family and Friends.

To many devils down here.

The Earth Ain't going nowhere soon.
After the Rapture, we will come in 7 Years and Jesus will Lock those devils up.
Then there will be Peace for 1000 Years!!!

I can't wait. This life is so tiresome. I'm in my 50's, so maybe that makes a difference. As Paul said, the present sufferings of this world cannot be compared to the glories to come. I am sooooo ready to see God's perfect kingdom!

By the way, don't forget. The earth will not cease to exist. There will be a new heaven, and a new earth, and Jesus will reign forever; the earth will be returned to it's pre-fall, perfect condition.

That's why life is so very precious. Our time in this world is so short.

I used to feel the same as you when I was young, now I live to glorify my Creator. We can't dwell on death when we're out amongst the living trying to make a difference.

If your faith includes belief in an afterlife, that should comfort you a great deal.

I wish you peace

Yes that does kinda freak me out, but if Heaven is real (i'm not saying its not i'm just saying that if it is,) then we will be with the people we loved who have passed away right? And we'll be safe. And who knows, maybe your favorite restuarant is up in heaven no on ewill know until we get there, and we won't be able to tell anyone else about, which is kinda scary now that I think about it. But the thing is, try not to think about it that much, just live your life to the fullest.

A little. But I don't have a job yet to fall out of routine of; I don't have a husband or any of that sort of thing; I wouldn't miss any individual location if it were to fall out of existence except my own home; and I have barely anyone who I will miss, even fewer who will miss me (especially outside of family). So, I am fairly underwhelmed by it, actually.

Death has freaked me out since I was about nine years old. I just sort of randomly think about it and my breathing gets labored and I break out in a cold sweat. I try to distract myself from it, because there's nothing I can do about it other than to delay it as long as possible.

I have no idea why it started at age nine. Nothing special happened to me then.
