you need someone who can legally perform a wedding. it does not have to be a pastor or a minister. check the yellow pages for officiants.

The most important thing is to find someone who will do the ceremony the way you prefer it to be done. Always meet them in person first.. Any notary public can do a wedding. They usually are pretty cheap- 100 bucks. Make sure they are willing to do the practice wedding (rehearsal) with you also.. You can become a notary public very easily.. If you want a friend to marry you- make sure you let the cat out of the bag a little bit, lol If your plan is more to elope or something- you can go to the justice of the peace, which is a courthouse wedding, and that is really the cheapest way. They even usually will make some accomodations for you to do a small celebration afterwards, as long as it is just a small and short one.

In short yes.

They can be a religious person or there are secular officiants. Call city hall and they will give you a list of judges and justices that do wedding at location instead of the courthouse. In some states you can also have anybody you want legally ordained through the internet (few days of class) for free is not a small fee. However all 51 states don't allow that so you need to check in your area.

The officiant is the one who marries you! lol Im sorry but its a little funny. You do need one if you're having a ceremony but not if you're going to the justice of the peace. If you belong to a church then just ask the pastor or priest. If not, then there are some wedding guides that have them too and you can always just go call one of them.

If there is no minister that can perform the marriage you can hire an officiant, which is someone who is licensed to perform marriages. The price will vary from city to city and state to state. Many cities have wedding chapels that will host your wedding at their facility and the officiant is included in the price. If you are planning your wedding ceremony somewhere else and only need someone to perform the ceremony you should be able to use the officiant for that purpose only.

An officiant is the person who marries you and your fiance. It can be a religious person, but what I'm doing is having a good friend of mine and my fiance' do it ....it's really easy to become "ordained" or whatever online in like, 3 minutes, and it's free. Then it makes it more personal for you.
I personally think it's an AWESOME idea- who else better to marry you than a close friend or family member? (Unless you're religious and want it done that way).
The place you need to go to is http://www.themonastery.org/
Check it out, it takes only a few minutes and is valid. Call the place you get your marriage liscence to verify it.

Officiant is the convoluted term for someone who can perform weddings.
Yes, if you dont have a pastor, then you need one. They do cost, check any of the wedding websites, they can put you in touch with one. Make sure you make it clear on the inquiry that you are price shopping.
