People just seem to pay lip service to the environmental lobby but do not really believe any of the messages on Global Warming. Why? Is it because they come across as condescending and sanctimonies? Or is it because of the rent a Dosser brigade at Heathrow airport who will do anything for a free can of Special Brew? You just no this is going to turn nasty as it’s the only way they can get on TV. Do these people help or hurt the cause?

I do think it is because they come across as condescending and santimonious. Also, because they usually will not listen to any type of common sense solutions, its all or nothing with them.
I think the biggest problem, however, is that they are usually hypocritical. Take for instance, the Live Earth concerts. How much CO2 was created by the electric power needed to run the concerts, and transportation to get the performers and fans to the venues? How much garbage/refuse is left behind at some of the mass protests they stage? They generally don't practice what they preach.

When you are chasing a cause for money just like a dog chasing cars, then you must get used to being treated like a dog chasing cars. In this case, this is the only way these people have of making money to live on. You think the guy at the intersection holding the "will work for food, God bless you" sign is the only begger in the city?? The reason is the same, the results are the same. You give the lazy *** some money and he is happy because he does not have to get a real job. You are happy because you think you "helped someone in need"
He is a scammer, you are a victim. Get used to it, there will be more and they all have the same message, give me money so I don't have to get a job which I would probably get fired from for stealing from the register anyway.
Ragged *** environmentalists are just people who got fired because they were stealing from the boss so they begg for a living.

The world of environmentalism is just like every other human belief system. It has it’s zealots and fundamentalists who believe there is no other way except their way and they are not afraid of getting in peoples faces to put that point across. These people should be ignored at all costs. The important messages they try to put accross are drowned amongst all the hell and brimstone preaching and quite rightly get on peoples nerves! Especially mine as i believe living more environmentally is not only morally correct but is much cheaper too :o)
However, there is a very great need when it comes to governmental lobbying. Lobbyists are folks who work with governments to bring about change to a parties political agenda, for the benefit of those they work for. It’s like a very large game of tennis. On one side you have all those lobbyists representing energy companies, gun companies, supermarkets… indeed anyone with a business interest. On the other side you have all those who feel that business interests need regulating including many kinds of environmental lobby groups (Greenpeace being an obvious choice). There are also human rights groups, those concerned with education, animal welfare etc. In the middle you have the government who listen to these groups and try to make informed decisions based on both sides of the argument.
It would seem like a great set up… and it would be if it weren’t for one thing. One side has a LOT of money and the other side don’t. I wonder if you can guess which?? Sadly this monetary imbalance often leads to decisions that lean towards the benefit of those with the cash. Governments around the world are rife with corruption as money from business finds it’s way into the election campaign chests and in many cases that money ends up funding a life of Reilly for those in power. Africa is a prime example of this corruption with leaders staying in power for decades even if they purport to believe in the democratic system. In the states things are a little different. But it doesn’t take someone clever to realise that their foreign policy has caused war after war, keeping unstable countries unstable and thus allowing them to keep control of certain recourses as American business goes in for the kill.
Ok… so it might not be the whole reason but there is definitely an element of it going on.
Anyway, what I was going to get at, before I went off on one was that a great deal of the contradiction you hear on the news regarding environmental issues stems from the various lobby groups arguing with each other. They use the media to filter their propaganda to the masses. This of course is deeply confusing for the general public and of course confused people can’t make decisions.
The best thing you can do is go and read stuff from informed sources that are not based on the interests of others… hard, but with research it can be done.
And if you want to understand a little more about lobbying you could read a very entertaining book called ‘Toxic Sludge Is Good For You… Lies, Damn Lies and the Public Relations Industry’… the film ‘Thank you for Not Smoking’ is also quite enlightening, and also very funny.

I think it is because the environmental lobby does a great job of screaming about doomsday but does a poor job of actually explaining the science behind it to the public.
The public has heard the world is going to end before. It's not a competition as to who can scream the loudest or who can get Bono to endorse them but as to what the science bears.
The endorsement by very leftist parties and the participation of eco-terrorists does not help either. Nor does Al Gore really.
I'm not necessarily a disbeliever in global warming but there is only so much screaming the average person can take before they tune out. Especially since anyone who disagrees with the proposition of man made global warming is treated like a leper. Things get silly and people tune out.

There is no one "environmental lobby." There are organizations like Sierra Club and National Wildlife Federation, and the former does have and does utilize political clout when the need arises. But there are lobbiests out there for any and all causes, including environmental ones.
People are finally getting the facts on climate change and the people who do take the time to read and watch and listen are getting the information they need to carry on to their families, friends, coworkers and legislators. Are there some zealots in the lot? Sure. Do they represent all environmentalists, or "the" environmental lobby? No.
