8 is a bit old simply because it's bad for the kid's teeth, but the average weening age around the world is 4, so going over a year is not bad at all. Studies have actually proven that children who breastfeed longer tend to be more independent and overall have less problems with developement. I think that in Westernized countries, we have begun to view breasts as sexual parts, but they're not. Breasts are simply a way to feed small children. It really isn't that weird. And breastmilk wouldn't be the only thing that the child is fed. They would also eat solid food.

I am with you on this one!! I too breastfed both of my children for 6 months and personally think that this is quite long enough.By this time, your child has already had the best start in life because of the nutrition it has had from you. After this, the child can be introduced to solids anyway and can get the nutrition from that!!
If the feeding was to continue after this and on into the child being a toddler and then of school age you are leaving yourself open to all sorts of things!! At what age does this stop being a maternal instinct and start to become a sexual perversion??!!!!!

yep i agree i watched a programme the other night its probibly the same one, extrodanery breastfeeding or something, and i actually felt ill at the sight of an 8 year old child breast feeding and actually asking to be breastfed, my niece is just over a year older than this girl and i think she would be totally embarressed at the idea of getting breast fed by her mum and they 2 have a very close bond and my sister is a great mother too her child, i think breast feeding at that age is bordering on child abuse

I breast fed my daughter until she was 6 months and had her first teeth! Then it was like putting my nipple into a pencil sharpner everytime I fed her! Breastfeeding a child is just wrong...there is no need for them to need the milk you supply as it gives greater benefits when they are young as your passing on some of your immunity etc! Your right...it is creepy and I think if I saw it I would have been sick!

Hhhhhhmmmm. I find it very hard to understand why anyone would want to continue to feed their child until the age of 8. Personally I breastfed my children, but gave up once they got a mouthful of teeth!!
I think your right, it is creepy!

I think its a form of control and it makes the child still think it has to depend on its mother it to me is disgusting that the mother thinks that this is ok i think that anything over a year is unnecessary and eight is just wrong!!!! Don't get me wrong breastfeeding is a good thing up until a point when they get their nourishment from food and normal milk.

Up to a year or a bit more is great. I think once they can walk they should stop breast feeding. I have known mothers of children of 3 or 4 years old to breastfeed on demand as a comfort for the kids but I don't think that is normal.

Age 8?,.. No way. In my country its not unusual to do it untill 2 or 3 years old. But even then its time to stop. Besides your producing way less milk. Your child will need to eat solids so its wrong to go on that long. TALK ABOUT EMBARRISMENT.

Yes, I think once they are old enough to realise it they should stop, I think 18 months is ok but still too old really, 8 years is weird, is that the program where the kid says 'Mummy, titty', its sick, the mother is a pervert in my mind.
