do you need civilian recommendations (bosses, college professors, etc) or do I need to track down my old unit and former commanders?

Once you begin the application process you will be informed as to what is needed. Your previous enlistment information will be reviewed etc. Best of luck to you, and good for you in wanting to reenlist and serve again.

Forget OCS. You were in and got out. You got a whopper of a break in service. They are not going to let you back in specifically for OCS and pass over guys who stayed the course. They may let you back in as an enlisted guy then you have to take your chances of getting OCS. Considering your break in service, I would not bet on it.

Your best bet would be to get into college and get good grades. Then apply for ROTC. That way you got funding for college and know when you graduate you will go in as an officer.

Nope, if you have your degree,

And can make the age limit for officers.

Just call an Officer recruiter and start the process.

None of the above. You need a degree and a recruiter.
