To receive Social Security an American citizen must work at least 40 quarters or ten full years. Our government has provided illegal aliens working illegally in the United States a better deal. They need to work only six quarters to receive Social Security. Yes, an American citizen works ten years and an illegal alien only needs a year and a half.

1. This is a fact
2. I am a democrat
3. IF (big if) we were to give SS to illegals they should be subject to the same requirements that Americans must meet in order to receive compensation including the full 10 years not 1 and a half.

The illegals claim that they pay S.S. on the fake and stolen SSN's that they use to work here that will never be claimed.

They even claim that they are the ones subsidizing the system and paying for our elderly even now.

I disagree, of course, but these are the main reasonings the alien sympathizers use.

As to some of the other comments:

This issue is not a conservative, or a liberal issue, though both sides are trying to use it to their advantage.

The U.S. citizens should band together on this issue and demand enforcement of existing law and get the current situation straightened out b4 starting to cloud the issues and politicize this issue to get more votes and then not do anything as they have been not doing.

Conservatives have had years of power to fix this, and so should we call them all liberal now?

This is an

independent

issue, so don't get fooled by the rhetoric.

Vote Independent and say no to both

LABELS

of conservative or liberal.

This effects everyone who pays S.S. or receives benefits.

What he wants is to break the back of our social benefits. The only way to do this is bankrupt the system. The term is called Starve the Beast.
Today it takes 6 people to by SS of one person. Can you image if illegals got it what it would do.
Remember he wanted to change SS and make it a saving program. Bush has no leverage on doing anything he is a lame duck.
He can't pass anything without congress. He couldn't get Immigration through this would even be harder. Especially when they are using someone else SS numbers.
Also, of all the illegals here only about 30% are working the others are women and children and of the working 60% are working under the table cash/ day labors.
Think about it.

Bush is an idiot.
Did you know on certain types of visas, like the H-4 visa a person is not entitled to work in the US or is not entitled to have a SSN or entitled to any social benefits of any description.

If the H1-B person dies and is married the H4 person/family has 90 days to leave the States and return to their own country, even though the are LEGAL in the States. Even if they own property here in the US

IS this fair? No

And Bush wants to give illegals more rights???

I believe George W. Bush whom I voted for twice and his Daddy would give the Mexicans the shirt off my back. bush has turned his back on conservative who brought him to the dance. He shows a total disregard for the loyal base who put him into office. The thought of Hillary in office scarces me but maybe that what the republicians need is a dose of reality. I am from this moment forward a Independant and will vote for anyone who will save our country from the immigration invasion.

It really should not suprise you. No "republican" is going to be perfectly conservative on every issue and Bush is definitely a liberal when it comes to illegal immigration. This isn't due to his left mindedness - he's not exactly an open border guy like the liberals -but he's in the pocket of businesses that demand the cheap leabor of illegal immigrants. It was well known before he was elected (both times).

In all fairness, I don't think this should be titled "Bush Wants to Give Illegals SS". more appropriately: "Another lie Hits the Air Ways"

You got to give it a break, Bush couldn't even get a more than fair change to the SS system (remember; private SS accounts?), out of the tank, and now you think he has the power to change it!

If you want to get mad about anything political, how about the money hungry, ego driven, dinosaurs in both parties that we continue to vote back into office. You know, the ones that get the earmarks for millions and can't figure out a way to insure SS for the future!

actually drixnot, that is inaccurate. Bush has proposed giving social security to any immigrant who becomes legal not anyone who is illegal. This is a common misconception. However, I have not heard that they are only required 6 quarters at all and in fact all the proposals I have read require them to have the same quarters that others do. What it proposes is that they get credit for the time they worked while not legally in the country AFTER they become LEGAL.

Its called the United States/Mexico Totalization Agreement, we have such agreements with other nations but this particular one will cost us a bundle since illegal immigrants will be included.

A better link, that maybe more will believe...
