I have been calling Rocky a beagle/shepherd mix, but being a mutt he could be 12 different types of dog in one. Any guesses? I got him at an animal shelter 16 months ago. He weighs 37 lbs. He is approximately 2 1/2 years old. And before anyone asks....he was neutered at my vet's office before he ever came home. :)

Thanks for all the responses! He does not bay like a beagle(or any other type of hound) at all. I had a bassett hound for 12 years and Rocky's bark is nothing like a hounds. His bark actually sounds like a German Shepherds. Our neighbor has a purebred beagle(who bays/barks all day long) and my dog is twice his size. Rocky is almost 40 pounds....that would be quite large for a beagle.....so I am sure there is a larger breed mixed in somewhere. Thanks again, everyone!

Beagle/shepherd seems like a pretty good guess to me. There's some kind of hound in there. The first photo made the dog looked very long-backed and long-faced which also made me think dachshund as a possibility too but the other photos look more beagle.

ok i c the following in ur dog
*his ears look like a beagles
*his tail is of a beagle
*eyes of a fox terrier
*his fur is black and tan which can b from a german shepherd, a beagle, a blood hound, a hamiltonstovare, or another breed its a very common color.
*i am positive ur dog is either a hound or a terrier. he looks more like a terrier
* his snout looks like a minature pinscher
u have a very cute dog, if i were to guess what breed i would say beagle, fox terrier, and possibly a german shepherd. i know for a fact ur dog is a beagle.
if u wanna find out 4 sure what ur dog is go 2 a vet and ask them to take a blood test on him they can tell u exactly what ur dog is.
*i am positive ur dog is either a hound or a terrier. he looks more like a terrier though.
i have the same problem with my dog i know for fact she is a chow chow and i think and hope she is also a german shepherd. but being that the mother was a chow chow and her owners only breifly saw the male dog (they said he looked like a german shepherd) all i know is that she is a chow and its possible that she is also something else. i havent gone to the vet to get her checked to c what she really is cuzz she's my baby and ireally dont care what she is.
good luck hope u figure it out

He has that beagle look...does he bay like a beagle? I think he may have a few types of hound in him (Lab and perhaps even something like Basset), but the curly tail is a surprise. Call him a Heinz 57 and call him gorgeous, and you probably have the breed.

the only thing I see about the dog that isn't beagle is the tail.. tri color beagles are common.. it's normally the lighter color that stands out, but it's not unheard of to see the dark.. There are a few breeds with that tail.. but for the life of me I couldn't really tell..
Although.... This one looks pretty close as well.. (they don't give a good description of the tail.. and it is one that is often docked so haven't found a pic with intact tail)

Looks pure beagle to me he is just of the darker colored variety. I don't see any mutt in him. At the very least I see three quarters beagle. The remaining quarter would be the tail - and that could be any breed, definitely not shepherd though!

SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!! I would guess beagle and husky. Could be your doggie had a mutt for a parent and could be a beagle, husky, shepherd mix! World of possibilities! I would say husky because of the hair and tail.
