According to my religious beliefs, the destroyers of false hope are the true messiahs. If I am only doing what my religion says I should do, I am no better or worse than a Christian who acts on the call to "go tell it on the mountain".
Am I and the people like me here to pick on Christians because we are hurt from things in our past and just lashing out?
I think not.
Am I here to break down the walls which hide and protect potentially capable minds from thinking logically and rationally?
I think so.
Why then must I constantly and repeatedly have to respond to the same crap about "you're just here to pick on people, you big meanie"?
I am not here to attack the believers; I come to attack the fallacious reasoning used by so many believers to support their fairy tale beliefs.
I am not attacking physically, and I am not at your door presenting something that MUST be dealt with or faced in some way.
I am 1 click away from disappearing from your screen.
Yet I am a bully?

dze, thank you for your response. Christians, please note that this is a logical answer which can be reasonably concluded based on what I have said here. Though it's not entirely truthful, I must admit it makes perfect sense and is therefore acceptable. The truth, however, is that I do not think I know it all nor do I have the messiah complex that would lead me to believe I know the best way for everyone. I do, however, know that I know enough to spot bullsh!t much more often than most people. I cannot say many times I know the right answer, but that does not mean I must remain silent when I do spot a wrong asnwer. Eliminating wrong answers brings us closer to finding the truth. That is the role I play.

LaptopJesus, good question. I am an atheist and a Satanist (among many other things). I say I am a Satanist because I share the beliefs and practices. I have not paid my dues to the Church of Satan, therefore find it inappropriate to speak as a Satanist since I cannot rightfully do so. I mention tidbits of my religious beliefs, but for the most part speak as an atheist.

TJ, I honestly do not care to entertain the idea of being nonoffensive or politically correct. There is always someone out there who will be offended by something. Spending my time trying to appease the world is a complete waste. What if my mom was beat up by an ex boyfriend named TJ? Your name would be offensive to me, her, and probably anyone else who knows her and cares. But it's not your fault, now is it? In that same fashion I refuse to take any responsibility for the hurt feelings or discomfort felt by people who are offended by something about me. It's not my problem. If anything, me being offensive might be a plus. It got your attention, didn't it?

kelly.belle, you are wrong. Logic and rationality is not defined by popular vote. The argument of popularity is actually a logical fallacy. Time to educate yourself. And I happen to care what other people's beliefs are when said beliefs cause people to do things that impact my life and my future in a way thta I see as being very negative. Christians love to take the religious rules and turn them into laws that govern not just them but EVERYONE. That is why we have a separation of church and state here in American... so that one religious belief cannot and will not supercede any other when it comes to law and government. Our founding fathers faced these samed troubles and escaped their homeland for this very reason. The Christians are trying to create this problem all over again. That is reason enough for me to care and break down the walls of stupidity. I care about myself, my family, and our future. Keep your religious beliefs away from us, and I will have no issue with you.

TJ, I will agree that respect is earned. Your definition of maturity may be different than mine. The respect I earn is by merit and by proven capabilities -not by hiding behind a Disney-like image and sugarcoating everything that I say. Many times the truth is cold, brutal, and very abrasive. I do not make apologies for this. I have gained the respect of many people for being the bold character you often see. You or anyone else being offended by something trivial means very little to me. If anything, I see it as a weakness of character. Why should I respect that? Luckily, I am able to look past the initial response or reaction and give the person a chance if they want it and are willing to do the same.

I am an ex Christian, and am not trying to pick on them. I am trying to help them.
Christianity is harmful. It breaks up families, communities and countries. It causes people to ignore education and gives them a false sense of charity.
It is my hope that I can help people understand how harmful the belief system is, and how the many inconsistancies in Christianity cause people to hate one another.
I want to see all Christians saved from hating others, saved from calling a Being willing to torture their friends and family for ever, "Loving" and saved from being duped into thinking the world and science is out to get them.
I want them to be happy, and in order for that to happen, I sometimes point out the clear problems with Christian doctrine. This is confused for picking on them, or being insulting. Not so, I am just pointing out the problems with the belief system.

The majority defines what is "logical" or "rational". That is not your place. I don't understand why you or anyone else think that they need to "break down walls" or personally save people from anything. Why do you feel the need to "attack the fallacious reasoning" of anyone? Do you really care about what a person thinks or feels about religion? If you believe then go to church, if you don't believe then don't go to church. It's as simple as that. Get over your own self-righteousness.

They are just stereotyping.
If you pay attention you will see atheist bug Christians and you will see Christians force their beliefs on others.
You can't generalize like that. Not all atheist come on here to pick on Christians and not all Christians force their beliefs

This logic that you possess will go way over their heads. I have tried logic many many times and they are impervious to it.
They claim you ( I am not an atheist) pick on them because to them there is only one way to see everything. You want them to see outside their narrow vision and that is uncomfortable to them.

For one thing, I would have a lot more respect for you if you had a screen name that was more respectful to the Christian faith. Im not saying pro-Christian, just well more mature.
I'm am not saying I want you to be PC, just mature. If you want respect you have to earn it.

It's that persecution complex again. And to Mystine: Do you not see the tons of atheist-bashing questions that are asked here every single day? Why the selective perception?

OH, you mean we are not here just to pick on them.
You are going to have a lot of very disappointed Christians then.
They have nowhere else to go to feed their persecution complex if we don't help them with it..

It's not just Christians that feel that way about the atheists here.
Actually, no, I don't see a ton of atheist-bashing questions. Not nearly as many as the Christian-bashing ones. The Christians seem to be bashed by everyone.

We're really tired of seeing such a display of ignorance and arrogance so often. It is really quite unbecoming and doesn't make for any pleasant conversation over tea.
