I have just asked a question:
http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AqORWHlIqc89SZ8UQMLvjukgBgx.?qid=20070813145231AAnYLwX

and the majority of answers are atheists, and I have also found, through my experiences with other answers off other questions, that the top contributors are mainly atheists (not that that means anything, im just pointing it out!!)

I'm not an atheist, but I think religion is private and I hate it when others try to inflict their beliefs on me

Actually...yes and no. I am surprised at how many think it is their job to try and "convert" Christians, by specifically singling out our religion versus all religions (****Please note not all Atheists do this Some do)...They also use the same arguments over and over again.. It is also a religion and spirituality section which is somewhat ironic to me because if you don't believe in God (any god)..why this section? I am not sure that I truly believe a person can be "spiritual" without believing in a higher power..and if so I would love to know how (in all seriousness). I have learned a lot of different things from some of the Atheists on this site..I have actually bought books on evolution so that I can try and understand where they are coming from as well as books on why God is supposedly non-existent and how they can "prove" that...I have also bought books that are saying scientifically God can be proved..written by non-Christians..So in a way some have helped strengthen my personal faith by trying to find out why they doubt it...because frankly the stuff I have read makes less sense logically, than my so called book of fairy-tales (Bible).. Thanks.

P.S. I am a top contributor and I am a Christian =)

Atheists also have a hunger to fill their hearts and minds and some of them are seeking the truth. Many may simply be fed up with religious people who either repeat mindless mantras or do not employ the proper use of argument / debate in order to establish what they really believe.. most atheists I have met are pretty serious about their beliefs. They like to argue and they like to put down Christians as fools. Judging from some of the answers here, most of the Christians need to get their noses out of RAS YA and into the Bible and study it so they can employ better reasoning. And after all anyone here who claims to be a Christian is bound to witness to anyone who asks serious questions. Christians owe it to themselves to know their Bibles better than the atheists do!

not at all. in fact there is a huge number of atheists in the world who don't really advertise this, partially because they don't feel it to be as much an issue as those who believe in a god, partially because of the persecution that they face by die hard theists.

the internet affords such people with a certain degree of anonimity, where people can vent their socially taboo beliefs. the majority of societies don't accept with open arms those who's religious beliefs are not in line with the dominant religions. the internet can be something of a safe haven for so called unconventional beliefs.

I'm a Christian, and no, I'm not surprised. They've got as much right to be here as anyone else, and often contribute some very interesting questions and answers. They add to the diversity of the forum.

I was surprised by the number of religous people on here, especially the way they get really angry if questioned.
I'm very surprised by the number of pro-lifers who get to abuse girls and women asking for advice at a hard time in their lives. Why do Yahoo allow this?

It is "bad form" to limit the responses.

That said, I'm not an atheist, so I am eligible to answer your non-question/statement.

"No, I am not surprised."

Why is it so important to you.....don't worry....you believe in God and heaven and therefore the will go to heaven if it turns out there is such a place.
