The Bible certainly does NOT ban drinking OR gambling. Jesus provided drinks for a party as His first miracle! What the Bible "bans" is excess or abuse of anything, including drink or gambling. Catholics know they are right because Jesus told the one Church He personally founded, and no other, "the Holy Spirit will guide you to all truth", and "whatsoever you bind upon earth is bound in heaven". And history plainly reveals that the Catholic Church IS that one true Church founded by Christ for all mankind.

+ Alcohol +
The Bible bans drinking to exess, not drinking.
Jesus told them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, ... (John 2:7-9)
Wine is used throughout both the Old and New Testaments. The first recorded miracle of Jesus was to turn water in wine at the wedding in Cana.
It is true that we should not become drunk but used in moderation, wine is a biblically acceptable beverage.
Go, eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a merry heart, because it is now that God favors your works. (Ecclesiastes 9:7)
What would Jesus do? Jesus had a cup of wine with dinner.
If some people wish to totally forego alcohol to eliminate the temptation to over indulge, that's fine. But I don't think they should force that unbiblical practice onto others.
+ Gambling +
Gambling is considered much the same as consuming alcohol and other activities that can become vices. If done in moderation then there is no problem. If not done in moderation then you can be in big trouble.
The Catholic Church officially teaches:
Games of chance (card games, etc.) or wagers are not in themselves contrary to justice.
They become morally unacceptable when:
+ They deprive someone of what is necessary to provide for his needs and those of others
+ The passion for gambling risks becoming an enslavement
Unfair wagers and cheating at games constitute grave matter.

That's your intepretation of the Bible.
When I read it, I see no such ban on gambling and drinking, and I've read the Bible several times all the way through.
How do you believe you're right?
Jesus himself made wine for a wedding party, so I think your view is pretty weak. That's just my interpretation, though.

Actually, the Bible does not "ban" drinking, but it does discourage drinking to the point of dullness (drunkeness)
It doesn't ban gambling, but it doesn't encourage throwing your money away, instead it reminds us to use it wisely.
Isaiah 55:2
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in the richest of fare.
Catholics hold casino nights to raise funds for their ministries and building projects.

Because everyone falls short of the glory of God. What makes you think that just because people are catholic they aren't sinners? No one is perfect accept Jesus. They will have to ask for forgiveness of their sins just like you and me. Take the plank out of your eye before you tell them about the speck in their eye. By the way Jesus drank and turned water into wine so who says alcohol is wrong. It does say not to drink until you are drunk.

If the Bible bans drinking, why did Jesus go around turning water into wine at parties?

I'm sure if someone were anal and pathetic enough, they could find some obscure scripture that may or may not make a vague reference to not having potlucks, street fairs, or absurd creationist museums for that matter. So it's only fair for Catholics and everyone else, therefore, to ask you, "How can you believe that YOU'RE right?"
Judge not lest ye be judged, as the saying goes...

They are not right , but the fact is, that people do other things, that they are not proud of, from other denominations.
"All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God"
To God , it is all sin. Sin is sin, it doesn't matter , what it is.
Murder to God is the same as stealing, only we sort out , what sin is worse than another. That makes us take away God's job, He is very well capable of doing it Himself, without our help.

Because Catholics know how to party.
I went to a Southern Baptist wedding once....Most mind-numbingly boring event I've ever attended. No booze and crap music....I've had more fun watching water boil
