Peter the apostle, when Peter told Jesus to avoid the cross, Jesus said Peter was under the influence of Satan, since Jesus going to the cross would be the only way that man would get forgiveness of sins and go to heaven, and avoid eternal hell. Stopping Jesus from going to the cross would have meant no forgiveness for anyone, so this was Peter listening to Satan one time.
Funny how catholics think Peter is the "first pope", yet Jesus called Peter Satan that one time, and Paul rebuked Peter for committing sin in Galatians. Peter also had a wife, according to the Bible.
Peter was a man of faith in the Lord and an apostle, but not a "pope". There are no "popes" in the Bible.

He (Jesus) was speaking to Peter who was under the influence of Satan.
Ironically, Peter had just spoken under the influence of the Holy Spirit when he confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God.
In hearing Peter's words attempting to dissuade Him from following the course His Father set before Him, immediately Jesus recognized the source - His opposer, Satan, or the Devil.

He is talking to Peter, but Peter is doing the work of satan. Since satan was working through Peter, Christ could rightly speak to Peter to rebuke satan.

If you are talking about the time He said it in Matthew, he was talking to Peter. Peter was listening to Jesus talk about the eternal kingdom, but Peter thought it was a literal kingdom that Jesus was bringing. Satan was confusing Peter. You have to take this verse in context with the rest of the chapter.

Jesus was talking to his human side, the mortal man Jesus. He for a moment entertained the idea that with his powers he could rule the world and make man conform to God's wishes, but Christ, the spiritual side of Jesus ,demanded these thoughts to depart, for he knew what was right and moral.
