I have been smoking cigars and pipes for several years now, I have no idea where these people get their information but they are sadly mistaken.
Are there risks in smoking anything, yes of course, you do not inhale cigar or pipe smoke, there fore you would not get lung cancer or develop emphysema. The lady who's grandfather died from it inhaled, no question about it.
To the person that says that cigars are worse because there is more nicotine in a cigar then a cigarette, what planet are you living on and where did you get that information. That is ridiculous. Cigars come in a variety of "strengths". If a tobacco plant is grown in the shade, there is less nicotine in the leaf. If a tobacco plant is "sun-grown", it will have a higher level of nicotine. That is a fact, look it up.
There are obviously many young kids on this forum who know absolutely nothing about this subject and have no business answering these questions with false information.
With cigars, you are at a higher risk for mouth and throat cancer yes. Lung cancer and emphysema, no, unless you hang out all day in a bar where everyone else is smoking and you are sucking in a constant wave of second hand smoke on a daily basis.
Enjoy your fine tobacco sir. Tobacco has been around forever and if cigars and pipe tobacco are used responsibly, they are no more harmful then a beer or glass of wine everyday.

Any pure form of tobacco is actually not as bad for you as the "light" cigarettes. This is because the "light" ones have harmful addatives. Pipe tobacco and regular cigarettes tend to have less addatives. However, Black & Milds are lik cigars packed with addatives and flavoring which just adds to the carcinogens. Smoking is bad for your health in general but if you really must, then I would stick to filtered regular cigarrettes.

Yes. In fact, cigars are much worse than cigarettes. One cigar contains as much nicotine as 3 packs of cigarettes. They can cause the same cancers as cigarettes, and often have higher risks for those cancers. Even if you don't inhale, you can still be at risk for lung cancer from cigars, and you obviously still get stained teeth, bad breath, and even loss of teeth. My advice is to avoid tobacco in all forms.
One more thing- A cigar can have up to 444mg of nicotine, whereas a cigarette can contain up to 11mg. This amount is dangerous in itself, yet extremely small in comparison to a cigar. If you don't believe me, just ask the California Department of Health Services, or your personal doctor.
Here's a great link too: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/Tobacco/cigars

Nope, in fact there was a surgeon general report about pipe smoking where pipe smokers lived longer than non smokers. So go ahead and ignore all the nay sayers and fire up a pipe or good cigar.

Mostly no because of the ingredients in ciggarettes which include a variety of poisons. When smoking out of a pipe you are just smoking tobacco which in itself is not nearly as bad as the other ingredients in ciggarattes. I am not really sure about cigars though. All of them can make you sick though.

Not quite as bad because you don't usually inhale pipe or cigar smoke. They can still cause mouth and throat cancer though. And the second-hand smoke is still just as bad.

I believe pipes and cigars are more associated with mouth or throat cancer than lung cancer, so i suppose its a little less serious.
