If you a wear a minus prescription then you are technically nearsighted...meaning without your eyeglasses you can see well up close but not at a distance. As you age your minus prescription will likely lower a bit. Now if you wear a prescription that reads
-1.00 in the sphere....you may not need glasses for the distance in your 40's (unless you have an astigmatism) but you will need glasses to see up close. As we age our near vision starts to deteriorate. Now if you wear a minus prescription that reads -5.00 (just generalizing here) then as you age that minus may go down a bit to say a -4.00 and in your 40's you will also have to add a bifocal to help with near...this is technically known as presbyopia.

So the answer to your question is....it depends on what your prescription is now and how old you are. But if you are 20 something and wearing a -1.00 sperical lens (no astigmatism) then yes...by the time you are 40 something you may not need glasses for distance and will only need them for reading.

Long-sightedness and short-sightedness are caused by defects in the lens in the eye. Glasses do not mend the lens in your eye - in fact they tend to make it slightly worse. Generally, we tend to become more longsighted as we become older so it's not unusual for shortsighted people to become longsighted.

Why would you wear minus lenses if hyperopic?

Anyway, it is possible for someone who is currently hyperopic to become myopic but it will happen due to Mother Nature. Not due to wearing glasses, reading, uses computer etc.

As you get older, your eyesight will change. I wouldn't have thought that it would be so dramatic that it changes your whole vision, but most people become more long sighted as they become older.
