Of course... Smokers have the right to die a horrible, painful death from lung cancer if that is what they want to do.

I'd think they'd be far more upset when they find out their child has lung cancer from the 2nd hand smoke. .... Or perhaps they'd feel worse if they did come down with cancer and know that now all their loved ones are affected by their "choice". Rarely does a choice effect only the one making the choice. And we'd all do well to be mindful of that.

Of course you have the right to be upset. Who wouldn't be upset upon learning that they have lung cancer. However, you shouldn't try to blame the cigarette manufacturing business. I doubt that anyone forced you to make the decision to smoke. I believe that people who will get cancer will get cancer even if they don't smoke. My mother lived to be 101 and she smoke everyday of her life from the time she was about 12 years old and dipped snuff on top of that. She was well up until she died of just plain old age.

Well we all have the right to feel any emotion we do, but do I see a smoker with lung cancer and say, Ha you brought it on yourself.... No. I'm not that cruel. I feel for anyone who has cancer regardless of how they came to have it.

Same group that laughs at a gay guy with AIDS, fat guy with diabetes, soldier with missing limbs and various sports figures with related injuries. Same reasoning applies!
These folks are usually self righteous, arrogant, elitist and uncaring.
Only good thing is this attitude usually comes around and bites em in the rear somewhere down the line.

Not really, but its a very sad thing for both the smoker and the family. Sadder still when a non-smoker dies from it, as many do.

I don't know, most people know the risks of smoking, yet people still continue to start doing it.
I can't say "no, you can't be upset!!" because I would be upset if I found out I had any kind of cancer.
Still, people know what could possibly happen to them so they bring it on themselves by smoking in the first place.

Yes, everyone has the right to get upset when they get sick. When we do stupid things like smoke, drink too much, get obese, not exercise, etc., we don't let go of normal human emotions. Getting sick is awful. Being upset is a normal reaction.
