Yes and No. Most of the time at an open bar, people know the people that are old enough to drink, and they sorta watch out for the obvious; however, if a person is served underage, then the host of the party is liable for the results, if a problem occurs, such as a wreck. This would be the case where the party and open bar is at someone's home, or a private function at an isolated place, such as a barn or lodge or a facility that rents the place, without questions. If at a local licensed alcohol establishment, such as a restrurant or hotel, then absolutely, because they are liable.

I've never seen anyone check id at an open bar. So if you appear to be over 21, you'll probably get served. But you're probably at a wedding or other social function with family and friends around- so I'd probably just sneak one. or two.

NO ! an open bar just means you do not have to pay for certain drinks. usually at a party or wedding its beer and wine. but state law requires the bartender check id and if he doesn't and someone underage gets drunk or someone gets hurt he can be held responsible and you can get arrested for underage drinking.

That's not what it means but in reality, at a wedding especially, it may turn out that way. With the high cost of dram shop insurance, most bar owners/tenders do not want to lose their license or raise their insurance , so I would guess they will check Id's

I will assume you are referring to a wedding recpetion, or similair type event when you say open bar...
If the event is being held at a formal venue, and being catered, you can bet your backside they will card. It will still be someone's liquor license in danger if they don't, but if this is a family thing, and having a friend bartend or better yet, just leaving a collection of different bottles up on counter to serve yourself, then no i.d.'s usually required....

bypass to a place like TGI Fridays or Unos. they have a residing room area the place all of us can sit down, and it sounds like a bar. i bypass to those 2 places for all time with underage pals. They even grant appetizers for a decrease fee in case you bypass later interior the evening AND the two places are open previous due (around 1am)
