It seems to me to be an ironic quote, since binary essentially means having two parts (as in almost any thing, etc...). This quote is referring to two kinds of people, so I thought my little thought on irony, for an lol... !! ;-}

But it may just mean very well educated people and those who aren't. Ho-hum.

I think it takes all kinds of people to make the world mentioned go 'round!

***Addition***including those wonderful mathematicians. Beautiful minds, I mean it.

that's not the quote.

"There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't."

Another is

"There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who are good at math, and those who aren't."

And last but not least....

"There are 2 kinds of people in this world. Those who put people into one of two categories, and those who don't."

It is a mathematical joke. In binary you only have 1 or 0, or open or shut or yes or no. In the joke there are only two choices yes,or no.

I must be in the latter category because I don't understand either! Maybe if I saw the quote in the proper context, I might get it, but as it is, I just think it means that I'm clueless!
