If you have a good knowledge of scripture, your life will center on it. That means at any time of the day the spirit of God can remind you of the word. It will guide, convict, comfort, instruct, teach. That's why knowing the bible, and continuing to study it, is so very very important. If we do not have this knowledge, how can God's spirit use it to further instruct us?

My experience has been that I'll read the bible and am led by the Holy Spirit to search the scriptures for a deeper meaning. Then I'd meditate on that word for a time until God shows me an example of the wisdom of what I've studied and meditated upon in a real life example. That is when the revelation of God's word come through so evidently that I sometimes become overwhelmed with a joyous excitement!

All the stuff when I was an unbeliever I used to call "weird coincidence", now I see God's hand all around me every day, weaving the fabric of my life. Our lives are no mere accident, they have design and purpose and meaning.
But the most dramatic incident of all was the night I was going to kill myself and a real literal voice in my head was arguing with me and finally yelled, "If you don't believe me, go look it up for yourself!" And I knew the voice was talking about that dusty old Bible on my nightstand I never read. And I went to that book, opened it up totally at random not knowing what to expect, and without turning a page my eyes landed on ISAIAH 41:10. I read that verse, and broke down and cried. In that single verse was everything that strange voice in my head had been trying to tell me.
I gave myself to Him that very night; even though I hope and pray no one has to reach the depths of suicidal despair like I did before they can hear the voice of God!
Because since then you see, I am convince He is speaking to us ALL THE TIME.
Trouble is, most of the time we're not listening.

I just sit there with a Bible in my lap, and flip thought it, and start reading . . . I can do the same thing with On the Road, and the Catcher in the Rye.
But God moves more through the Bible, and a lot less in On the Road.
I read the Bible to hear how God speaks to me, rather than go to the Bible with my questions . . .
The questions get answered in the quiet times, away from the Bible.
Godspeed.

I don't base decisions on Bible passages but what is right or wrong. There are few people who do know the Bible that well.

It's easy. I just walked out of the store on my way home from work and there was this fine woman pushing a cart out to her car. God spoke to me and said "I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart" so I looked away and thought about something else. Mat 5:28
I was driving home and the people in front of me on the road seemed like they didn't have a clue as to how to drive properly. My natural tendency was to think "What a bunch of Losers!" but instead God told me "have compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." Mat 9:36
I got home and some guys are doing construction work next door with power tools and God told me " Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness." James 1:2-3
That's because the Lord is always telling me to "take every thought captive to obey Christ," 2 Cor 10:5
And that's just what happened in the last 20 minutes since I left work.

Those who are believers today have special "mail" that has been addressed specifically TO and ABOUT them.
That mail is found in Romans thru Philemon and contains the instructions for the church, which is His Body today.
All the rest of the Bible is written TO and ABOUT the nation Israel and has to do with the law of Moses and circumcision.
We are told how to make sure we understand our bibles in 2 Tim 2:15 "Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that doesnt need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth."
When we differentiate between Gods LAW program with Israel and His GRACE program with the Body of Christ, we are doing what God has told us to. We need to know where OUR instructions are found.
God HAS spoken thru His Word, and we go to the place where the RISEN Christ gives instructions to HIS church, which is HIS body today...and those instructions are found in Romans thru Philemon. All the rest of the Bible is for a Jewish audience in times PAST and in Ages to COME, however we can learn from it about Gods dealings with the Nation Israel in THEIR program.
I hope this helps.

Mainly God speaks to me From His word. There have been times He has used my conscience mind to communicate directly to me. He taught me how to explain His nature by that method, and He taught me about eternal marriage that way. BTW this 6'3" 275# guy (Me) is the bride :) . I guess He can decide how He will speak after all He in in charge.. IHS Jim

He is speaking to me right now...My DH was just admitted to the hospital, they think he might have something wrong with his heart...I am scared but I know whatever the outcome, God will be with me.
Jeremiah 30:17 "For I will restore health unto you, and I will heal you of your wounds, saith the Lord."
Isaiah 53:4-5 "Surely He hath borne our griefs (Lit. sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (Lit. pains) yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and by His stripes we are healed."
Jeremiah 33:6 "Behold, I will bring you health and cure, and I will cure you, and will reveal unto you the abundance of peace and truth."
Mark 11:24 "Therefore I say to you whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them."
when you pray.....believe
I ask anyone who is reading this to believe with me for his healing. And thank you to all that do..in Jesus name
Matthew 18:19-20
19Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
