In the military, at the initial entry stage, ridicule and sarcasm are heaped upon you to break you down. The drill sergeants need to work with a clean slate, so they use these as tools to acheive that goal. Another reason is to teach the profound lesson that respect, which is a mutual thing, must be earned. However, anyone who willfully disrespects another, simply because they think they are in a position to , do not deserve respect themselves. Don't be discouraged. Try not to get frustrated because of the remarks of 20% of people, because 80% are outstanding.

Please dont let the ignorant ones dissuade you from service, there are a lot of people out there thta like throwing thier weight around, when you get in, you will not be ridiculed at all, you will be pushed hard, dont get me wrong, but it is unprofessional to ridicule a trainee or anyone, for that matter, its the Instructors duty to make sure that you understand what is being taught, and dont worry about stupid questions either, you never know, so just ignore the ones that ridicule you, they are not worth responding to and are not giving a good picture to you, as for that , they are acting poorly

The army breeds out weakness, if it does not seem like you can take the heat, they will push you out of the kitchen.
It's the step up or step out mindset
But it looks as if you were conversating with your run of the mill internet meathead. You know the type, dead from the neck up. The type who thinks just because there aren't any reprocussions they can say whatever the hell they want
Phrases such as "Don't ridicule me" are asking for trouble anywhere on the internet. You aren't dealing with a sane, rational conversation.

It is to make you stronger. That is the original reason. But I think they just keep doing it now as a tradition, because it they have always done it. It is a rites of passage type of thing. You will have to endure 100 times worse in real combat. You have to develop mental toughness and a blanking out of emotion under duress. These are typical traits you will need during combat.
That's my opinion. Perhaps someone with army training might be better placed to advise you.

being in the military we learn important lessons in life and we are verry carefull as to what we say to others as not to offend our country or our men that serve our country
many civilians sometimes come off as verry harsh when they ask questions about the military because they simply dont think about who they are going to offend when they say it or they think because it doesnt do them any harm it wont bother us about it
and yes we do think we are higher up that others soliders fight for freedom and deserve to be higher up
some good advice is the military life is all how what you make of it your self its a hard life yes but you dont have to make it any harder than what it is some just dont know how to handle that in life and if they cant make lemon aide when handed lemons then the military life will be extremely diffcult.
some it makes them stronger for some it breaks them down soliders need to be able to handle tought situations in life other wise they wont make its to teach them that not everything is suposed to be a walk in the park all the time and how to figure out how to make it easier

The army does not ridicule.
Small minded people do that.
The army tears you down and then builds you up into something stronger.

The only time I was "ridiculed" was when I did not listen to what the drill sergeant said, or did something he specifically told me not to do.
I made me stronger by choosing to shut my big mouth, keep my comments to myself, and listen carefully and watch the drill sergeant. Do what he does, say what he does. do what he tells you to do. You will come out fine.
Your drill sergeants are the best of the best! That time in Basic flies by way too fast.

Some of them do it just to be b.a.s.t.a.r.d.s. .....because they can. that's also why some of them run into trouble in the civilian world ....the same guy who took all that cr-p from some power hungry nco isn't going to do so on the outside....nope civilian life is a different animal.
