staring at flat screen (tv, books, computer screens) for prolonged periods of time can cause temporary vision issues with your eyes, usually resulting in minor nearsightedness.. many times people get prescriptions for this and compound the problem instead of taking a break and letting their vision readjust... thereby weakening their eyesight even more. Also, don't forget that we are all getting older.. and that every day our lenses are just slightly more rigid than the day before.. over the years this also leads to vision issues.

My optometrist told me once upon a time that all you really need to do is take the occasional break and focus your eyes on something in the distance for a few minutes a few times a day and you minimize the stress on your eyes.

I have table lamps on both sides of my computer table. These lamps are at the front corners of the table, the computer is at the very back side in the middle of the table, very far from my eyes. Lamps help me not to have the very bright screen damage my eyes.
If it happens not to switch on these 2 lamps, I feel bad with my eyes. The screen light affects eyes if it is too bright.

Not according to my eye doc. It can make your eyes tired though. Also, the brightness of the screen affects you, how close to the screen you sit and how long you are online at a time. Just use common sense and all will be fine.

Yes. Just don't sit too close to the screen, because it strains your eyes...also, take breaks every 20 minutes or so...I heard that if you have / get a flat screen, they put less strain on your eyes too
