I just recently had my policy cancelled because I never recvd my statement and missed my payment. I have been asking around and it seems like no company will work with me even though this is not my fault. I had my car policy cancelled when I was 17 and a stupid kid, so this is my second cancellation in 9 years of driving. What should I do? By the way, I live in MA.

Let me rephrase since I was not clear. I did not receive a statement so I assumed this was like my previous insurance company where you only make 10 payments per year rather than 12. I should have clarified this with my insurance company but did not. When I called this month since I still did not receive my stmt, they told me they cancelled my insurance three days after my due date, NOT 30.

Firstly, to find the right insurance for you I would go to a broker who can put all of your info in a rater and come up with the best premium for you.

Secondly, usually when you start the policy they give you a pay plan that lists all of the dates and amounts of your payments for the entire term of your policy. If you never get a bill you are still responsible for making payments. Another thing to remember is that most companies do not give you a flat 30 days after your payment is due before you are canceled. A lot of companies are equity based so the number of days before cancellation is determined by how much you've paid into the policy. In theory, if you have no equity built up in the policy they have every right to cancel you even if your payment is one day late.

You won't find a "best"--in fact you will be very lucky to find any company that will take you after being canceled. I'd call Progressive if I were you, they work with those that are hard to insure and need the SR22 filing.

Why did you not receive a statement? Did you move and not forward your mail? Even without a statement, you should know when it's due, and a call to your agent would have fixed it. They don't cancel the day after you miss a payment, they usually give you at least 30 days to reinstate your policy, so I feel you are leaving a lot out here.

Nonetheless, I do wish you well.

Whatever company you can find that will insure you, at this point. I found out a long time ago that not receiving a statement is not a valid excuse. You should do what I do and have your premium deducted from your account on a specific day of the month. I never have to worry about missing a payment.

Sorry, but it IS your fault and resposibility to make payments on time. Most companies do not cancel on the date you owe the money on and also send out a cancellation notice as a reminder. Now you are rated as High Risk and will be paying much higher rates for 3 years.
