Why again can't people just live their own lives? If you don't believe in being given the choice to abort, how about you don't have one? If you don't believe in gay marriage, how about you don't marry a gay person? If you believe smoking pot is wrong, I say don't smoke pot! If you don't think you should have sex outside of marriage, why don't you just wait until you're married? If you think birth control is immoral, by all means, don't take it!

Thats right, Power to the People!

We'll all respect each others beliefs and stay the hell out of each others personal lives, who's with me!?

Twinsma - like I said, if you don't like it (WHATEVER "It" is), don't do it. Let others make personal choices as they see fit. By the way, for thousands of years, religions have (and some still do) turned to various substances to reach heightened states of
consciousness, including marijuana, opium, and hash. I myself don't partake, but I don't give a fiddler's fart if you do.

mizmead - don't act like a fool, you were smart enough to turn on your computer, I'm thinking your smart enough to understand the why that scenario would not be acceptable. Of course "Personal" choices cease to be personal when they involve hurting another person don't they? And don't come back with abortion. Its an embryo - not, a fetus, a baby or a person - yet. Again, if you have different beliefs about that distinction - great. I'm not advocating getting an abortion either, but I say if one's situation is such that one feels that to be her best option, I'm glad she has that choice.

Im with you, and I resent twinsma's response.

What about those who believe that sexual abuse of children is a form of sexual choice? What about those who believe that we should euthanize the infirm and elderly?

Should we endorse everything that others think is right?

Respecting others' beliefs is a good thing. But just because someone believes something, doesn't make it right. We must have standards or our entire society will cease to exist.

EDIT:

First, I do not believe myself to be a fool, though I am certain others may differ in that opinion.

Second, I am not an advocate of regulating morality. I have no problem with people making personal choices and am more than willing to allow them to face their own consequences; and I even feel compassion to those who have made poor choices.

When you bring abortion into the equation, it does change the entire issue. Call it what you will, it is still a human, capable of response to stimulation, and capable of feeling pain.

Once we can find a way to protect a women's right to choose AND protect the life of the unborn, I am on the bandwagon.

I agree with you up to the point of equating deep, personal life choices such as abortion and marriage with smoking pot. A spiritual life is lived by living in reality, not escaping from it.
