Without proper pre-natal (like an untrasound) to tell you how many to expect, it is anybody's guess how many she will have. You should have done some homework (and serious thinking) before you allowed her to be bred. That being said, it is not unusual for a ***** to take several hours to deliver a litter. The more puppies, the longer it takes. A standard rule of thumb, do NOT allow her to go longer than two hours between puppies without seeing a Vet immediately. Longer than two hours in labor could mean that she is in real danger. You will see heavy panting and CONTRACTIONS if she is still in labor. If she settles down (little panting and no contractions) with the three she already has...she is probably finished with the delivery. It would be an excellent idea to pack her and puppies and take her to the vet right now. They will be able to tell you if she (1)has more puppies, (2) has any blockages with a dead pup and (3) if she is producing milk to feed her litter. Occasionally you must supplement a litter if mom is not producing milk immediately. A crash course in having a litter is NOT the way to learn. You should have her spayed as soon as possible so you don't have to deal with an unplanned litter ever again.

IF she's a larger breed like a Lab expect 9 to 13 pups if it's her first time. There can be an hour in between pups.

If a smaller breed, Corgi or Wiener dog, they can have 4 to 6 to 8. The same thing time wise. I do breed Corgi's and my female had 11 her first time, large litter for a Corgi. She did it in 6 & 1/2 hours. This is not a fast process.

I have a litter due next month and I understand how you feel now. It will be fine. Let us know how she does.

IF the dog is a very small breed then expect up to 3 pups. Her belly doesn't mean she has more. It's been streched out for some time and will take time to get back to shape.

Labor can slow with each additional birth. less pressure in the uterus.
Check her abdomin for rigidity/ Is she still having contractions/
Give her clean cool water, and a QUICK trip outside (on a leach as she may want to run off to have the next pup).
The movement will stimulate labor and speed things along.
What breed of dog? Average litter size--look it up on net.
Can be up to hour between pups.
If it's too long the pup may be still borne.
Do NOT let her eat all the after birth. 1 or 2 is sufficient to start her milk. Additional can cause SEVERE diarrhea.
Good luck

One, it depends on the breed of the dog. if it is a large breed, then expect up to twelve. if it is a small breed or toy breed then expect maybe two to four. Plus it would help if you had some sort of whelping box for her. And a lot of towels. it does get messy. And if she is having contractions every hour or so then immediately take her to the vet, she may need a emergency c-section.

Yes. From experience allow 3 hour intervals for each puppy. Do you know how many she is having? You can e-mail me and I will give you my phone number if you are really freaking out. She should be perfectly fine though. Just make sure the puppies nurse. You will know they are nursing when you hear a sucking sound. When they are done they will fall off the nipple and go to sleep. In the meantime if she has trouble cutting the cord you can get dental floss and tie it around the cord and cut an inch above the cord. Make sure the puppies are with the Mom. Make sure is it quiet. If you are not quiet nothing will happen. She needs you in the room and that is it. DO NOT MAKE IT A CIRCUS.

Please e-mail. If she is straining for awhile she MUST GO TO THE VET! I would know b/c my dog had to have an emergency c-section 3 months ago.

I am not sure if I should help you or slap you for not doing research first!

Call the vet! They can give you better information than we can here. We don't know what type of dog you have, how many times she was mated, what she was mated with, etc. There are so many things that can go wrong, and without knowing anything, other than she is in labor, you can be given so much bad information! The phone call to the vet is free! Please call them!

It may take her all night to deliver all the puppies, keep her quiet and keep an eye on her to make sure things are going well. She will take care of delivering but if she seems to be in any kind of trouble get her to vet right away. She should also have a shot after all puppies are delivered to prevent any infections. Also don't forget about the shots for the puppies and worming them. Good luck

Expect one pup every 45 to 60 minutes with 10 to 30 minutes of hard straining. It is normal for bitches to take a rest partway through delivery, and she may not strain at all for up to 4 hours between pups. If she is seen straining hard for over an hour, or if she takes longer than a 4-hour break, consult a veterinarian.

Expect some puppies (probably half of them) to be born tail first. This is not abnormal for dogs.

Call Your Veterinarian If:

- 30 to 60 minutes of strong contractions occur with no puppy being produced.
- Greater than four hours pass between pups and you know there are more inside.
-She fails to go into labor within 24 hours of her temperature drop.
- She is in obvious extreme pain.
- Greater than 70 days of gestation have passed.

It is normal for the mother to spike a fever in the 24 to 48 hours following birth. This fever should not be accompanied by clinical signs of illness.

Normal vaginal discharge after parturition should be odorless and may be green, dark red-brown or bloody and may persist in small amounts for up to 8 weeks.

When in doubt CALL YOUR VET!

Each labor will be between 1- 2 hours maby shorter. she will look realy skinny when done so she may still have more. she will start panting befor each labor and you can see the stomach contract. If she is a larger breed she may have a larg litter. My chiuahuah just had a wopping 5 and her mom had 6
