I've been driving fine for almost 6 years - no accidents, no tickets... then me and my boyfriend decided to get a new car. He wanted a 5-speed, which I didn't know how to drive. All my friends drive them and they seemed pretty simple, so I agreed. I've been driving it here & there for about a week and a half now, and I'm still terrified! I know how to drive it I'm just not very good at it, and I'm worried that because I'm so nervous I'll make more mistakes. Esspecially when it comes to hills & traffic! Do I have driving anxiety, or am I a baby and just need to practice more?? HELP!

It sounds like you might have anxiety but the more practice you get driving the new car the more it will go away.

You are not a baby. But like you said you need to practice more. The best way to get good safe practice is to get up very early Saturday and Sunday mornings and start driving in your own area and practice backing up, parking, and down shifting. If you do this every weekend you will be a better driver than your boyfriend and all of your friends. Remember the very very old saying PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

Id say u need more practice. You're not secure enough to drive the 5-speed & perhaps you know that deep down...You're afraid to make mistakes & you want to drive it as well as you have been driving in the past...Just practice with it & you will drive it fine one day.
Good Luck

I don't think it's driving anxiety...you are just nervous because it is a new and unknown thing. Driving stick is hard, and it'll take you a while to get it down pat. Practice, all the time!!

Practice makes perfect. This goes for people with OCD, anxiety issues, etc. A lot of it is phsycological. Tell yourself everything is okay when you get in and drive the car.

Get over it. If you'd hit something the you'd have an excuse. A couple or three weeks and you'll be sorted.
