i got to return my license plates, due to an accident; what happens when i do this? do i get money back? do i HAVE to return them; if i dont, what happens?

In the U.S., if you are required to turn over your plates, they hold them until all the reasons for taking them have been remedied. If you do not turn them in, you can be held in contempt of court. They will send someone to retieve them. If they are on a car parked on public property, they will tow it to an impound lot.

If you return them to the ministry they will cancel it for you, but they no longer give you back your money. This is in Canada
