No one really knows. He didn't have an ideal childhood, but it wasn't the kind of nightmare he put his own kids through, either.

Fundamentalist Christians...he was probably born gay...and could not face the world...so, suppressed his God-given sexual orientation.....in an effort to escape from his desires, he strikes out at gay people.
That, or he is just a lunatic.
