I have Windows Vista and my Word program has worked for the three months I have had this computer, but today when I try to type a little thing in the corner says that "This modification is not allowed because the selection has been locked." Even existing documents won't let me edit.

Can anyone help me fix this? Please and thank you!

It's Vista. There is no 'tools' option.

Sounds like it was a trial version that was good for 90 days. At the end of that time it will let you read your files, but not edit them. You have to purchase Microsoft Office to continue editing them.

Kind of like being hooked like a fish, isn't it?

Good luck.

You must have inadvertently protected your document from access.

go to tools protect document and see if you can unprotect it. You locked it from anyone, even yourself, from accessing and modifying the document. Did you put a password on it?
