I don't think it matters one little bit how much petrol of fossil fuel we use. The quicker we use it the quicker it'll be gone and we'll be forced to live back in the stone age. If sea levels rise that'll be good for marine life and bad for humans. if the world warms up by a few degrees it'll be back to the way it was a few million years ago. The planet is always in flux, it is always changing I think it's supreme arrogance by human beings to think that they can control the planet. They can't. If the world becomes overpopulated by mankind without any form of control nature will force control on our numbers the same way it does with any species through famine, disease or uniquely for humans with war. Thats a worry for us but the planet won't give a sh1t and will continue as it always does.

I agree that the planet is always in flux and in a constant state of change. We are currently in an interglacial period of an ice age. Although these interglacial periods are relatively warm, the earth is still colder than it's normal state. It should be warming for the earth to get back to "normal."

John Walkup, where did you get your information that a 4 degree temperature rise caused the permian extinction? The most common theories for that extinction include a massive earth impact, massive volcanism in siberia and glaciation. See attached links.

Trevor, I know you don't believe that temperature change is occuring now at a quicker rate than ever before. You are certainly aware of the younger dryas event where temperatures changed by as much as 10*C in one DECADE. I think that rate is much faster than 0.6*C in one CENTURY. Not to mention that ice core data studies show larger and quicker temperature swings (both warmer and cooler) in both Antarctica and Greenland on multiple occasions over the last 10,000 years. Where do you come up with this stuff??

LOL-I read in a book about 2012-some shaman said if there's a fungus on the skin, the only real cure is to go in the sun & burn it off, which was his way of saying if humans don't get it right, the earth will simply 'burn' humankind off.
'Pink thong' is so totally misinformed. England is experiencing unusual flooding right now while the rest of Europe is going through droughts. When the polar ice melts, freshwater floods the sea and that, in turn, affects the Gulf Stream and it's (the Gulf Stream) the reason the UK islands are inhabitable. Since the saline content is going to be affected, I'm not sure how or to what extent the sea animals are affected.
Despite what you said and other natural phenomena we have absolutely no control over (a Yellowstone super-volcano or the sun burning us all b/c it's acting strangely), I'm still going to do what I can.
Oh, there were a few respondents on here that said derogatory statements about scientists. What a joke-some HS level moron thinks he has a better grip on reality than someone who's based his answers on group research and years of schooling?

Well no, bigger cars and airplanes chug down more gas than a smaller car. An Army tank gets 1 mile per gallon, a dump truck gets 2 miles per gallon. Some smaller cars get 10 to 60 miles per gallon. The toyota Rav 4 Hybrid gets 110 miles per gallon.

The gist of your argument seems to be that the planet is always in a state of flux and as such we should just go with the flow - that makes sense.

However, whilst climate is dynamic and ever changing it's the rate of change that is worrying, much faster now than has ever before been known.

We're outpacing nature and she can't keep up. Nature changes slowly and in many cases provides the time needed for species to adapt and evolve, this is no longer happening. We're pushing the planet into a perilous situation, one in which neither we nor nature has control.

Future generations won't have much of a world to live in if they're "forced to live back in the stone age".

i like you krooney......you think similarly to what i do.......the planet will survive if it has nothing on it's surface......but that is not likely to happen is it........i do not believe this crap about the ice caps melting and raising the sea levels by several meters as the ice caps are small compared to the worlds oceans and take in mind that two thirds of ice is under water so when it melts there is more space so makes room for that ice above water...trees take in carbon that is loose in the air and so thrive the more carbon is about and nature will begin to store it in the earth again as before......we are moving towards cutting down on emissions in every way and also harvesting more and more energy from wind and solar...yet they have us believe we are falling behind so they impose taxes as usual.........the weather is changing all the time and always has........humans ruling the planet?.nature rules and nothing else.......religion? keep it but i have to say i think it holds people together in belief that we should worship whatever it is that allowed us to exist... churches in every place we go are a delight to see and religion was here always......OK enough lol

The arrogant jerks that call themselves Scientists haven't a clue whats going on. I read in the paper the other day that a study shows that driving to the shops is more eco friendly than walking, because of the energy intensive food production techniques and the calories you burn.

As an aside, it now appears that if you stay OUT of the sun, you are more liable to get cancer because of a lack of vitamin D in the body.

Shoot the lot of em I say.

Look up the Permian extinction. A 4 degree rise in the overall temperature is enough to end life on earth. We're around 1/2 way there.

Its quite a simplistic view. I know i dont want to be responsible for speeding up the mess, so Im prepared to do the little I can not to make it worse.
