First of all take you dog to the vet. Keep its shots up to date... rabies, etc... Be sure to have plenty of water and food for you dog. And change the water as often as possible, would you want to drink out of an old water bottle, no telling what germs could be in after a few days. Make sure you play with it, dogs need exercise just like you. Your dog will be happier if it is healthy, well exercised, watered, feed, and bathed. Your little on need baths too. At least one every other week if not more. If you have more questions ask your vet specifically, because they can teach you hands on with your dog.

First step, get a book on puppy or adult dog care. Obviously no one here has space to type out a whole book's worth of advice! Second, see if your local pet store, or an independent local dog walker or trainer, can give you and your dog a few basic lessons. You need to be there too - as a famous dog trainer, Barbara Woodhouse, said, "I can train any dog in 5 minutes. It's training the owner that takes longer."

I too am a little concerned that you got the dog and then asked what to do.

Food and Water quick.

And I am in agreement with your other responders
Get a book on the breed. Some dogs make great couch potatoes and some need lots of exercise or you life will be awful. My Queensland wants a trip to the park every morning at 7:30 or NO*ONE*GETS*TO*SLEEP. Even in the rain.

Most dogs respond to how you train them and will quickly reflect your personality. So be a good alpha pack leader

You should buy a dog encyclopedia or another good dog book that will tell you what you need to do to care for your dog. You can also find information about general dog care on http://www.dogbreedinfo.com

Sorry to say this - but if you don't already know how to care for your dog, you shouldn't have one! Dogs are like humans, they have needs and wants and most of all feelings. So if you have a dog and don't know what to do for it - do it and yourself a favor and give it to someone that does know.

go to a local pet store and find a book about the breed of dog you have. If it is a mix look up info about both breeds and tweek them to make them fit your dog. Above all this, be sure that you give the dog plenty of quality food and clean cool water daily. Love him even when he is anoying the heck out of you. be sure to take him the the vet for regulay checkups and be sure that his shots are always current.

There is a lot of information online about dogs. Google the breed in and have a good time with the information. Libraries have books that you don't have to buy that'll help. The pet store, and the book stores will help also.

Your question is very broad so I would say go buy a book on how to care for a dog. If you don't want to buy one go to your local library I am sure they have something on dog care.

Errr well, feed a high quality dog food, walk daily, don't shut out in the garden...

Go to your vet to learn about proper dog care, it's what they're there for. You need to know about regular de-fleaing and de-worming, neutering and vaccinations for starters.

More details are needed, do you need to know something specific??
