I have a credit care that I have paid off, but kept in case of emergency. I got my credit checked today to apply for a loan, and apparently my card has, in fact, been active. I havent used it in more then a month, but accoridng to my online statement it has! From march to now, the monthly transactions have been from a bit more then $50 in march, then up and down around 30-40. Its a low limit card ($500) that is currently just a bit over the limit. I also went to check where the statements are getting sent, because they arent coming here, and it says its not available...but I was able to before I have changed my address on it when I had moved!
Will I be charged since I dont have identity theft protection? What should I do? Who do I call and what should I say? I'm freaking out right now!

I was told this will stay on my credt history and I have to pay it off, you know, if they dont catch the guy. Is this true? Its not -alot- of money, but its not right, I need good credit to buy my house...and that money would do much better in my babies savings then to pay off whats not even mine!

Is there a phone number on the card? Call it right away and have it stopped and check the address.

You need to call the card company right now, they will cancel the card. Then you need to talk to think about what they offer for this kind of theft. the card needs to be closed to stop the person. If the company will not take off the changes, well... there isnt much you can do but pay for it but close the card so they cant chnage anything more and you can have a statement put on your crdit report that states someone used your card & put it over its limit.

Calm down.

Call the credit card and tell them that you believe that somebody is using your card illegally. As long as it is under $50, and you notify immediately, you do not have to pay for it. Plus the credit card would stop authorizing any more purchases and it becomes a FBI jurisdiction.

Check on your other credit cards too. Make sure you do not have personal ID theft.

hope that helps,
