My friend's son started at $65k four years ago. I was jealous. That was a *very* high starting pay for an EE. He did graduate magna *** laude, though.

As for career span -- I've gone 26 years in instrumentation and design now, with no signs of 'letting up'.

Unfortunately, it depends on these criteria in America.

What area of the country you are working in (cost of living)

Race: (Caucasian is preferred)

Gender: (Male preferred)

Willing to work over 50 hours per week with no overtime pay

Willing to travel over 50% of the time

Relatives working at the company

Willing to do the scrub work no one else will do

Kiss up to the boss: (won't help because when the job is done, you'll go)

Salary ranges for new engineers just out of school with no experience is between $ 30,000.00 to $ 40,000.00 annually (if you're lucky). Of course you must meet all or most of the criteria listed above.

I use a different set of criteria.
