I am an absolutely horrible cook. It's just me and my daughter at home, and most nights I don't even make the effort. I heat up frozen chicken strips and a can of corn, slice some tomatoes, and that's dinner. Every time I try to actually make a recipe, it turns out terrible.

Okay, you can all flail me now.

I too, am a single mother and I was a terrible cook, but I started watching Food Network and I paid attention to their techniques and then I started to feel more confident, like if these bozos can do it so can I. Just kidding. But, I started trying some of Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals and then I tried some of Paula Deen's country cooking. Now I collect cookbooks and my teen age daughter and I pick out recipes and cook together, our time together is fun even if the food is yucky. :)

Cooking is a hobby. If you want to make it as a hobby visit cooking websites. Read magazines and newspapers, they have pages of cooking recipes. Also there´s a tv program where in they show some recipes. Or you invent your own recipe. Self made is always the best. Do you agree?

I was in your situation once. The Better Homes & Gardens cookbook (the red plaid one) helped me immensely. And the Betty Crocker one. Everything from easy to difficult, tons of tips and tricks and substitutions and stuff. I screwed up many a dish, but just think when it gets screwed up what to do different the next time! It happens to all of us. I am not flailing on you, because you're trying! Trial and error is what makes us all better cooks. Don't give up!

We don't want to flail you, we would like to be able to help you. To learn to cook better, start watching some of the food network shows. I realize they cook pretty elaborate sometimes, but seeing how they do something really helped me.

Also, I've found a lot of good recipes on their website , along with , allrecipes, cooks and some very quick and easy recipes at: http://www.razzledazzlerecipes.com/quickneasy/index.htm

Try taking some cooking classes. If you don't want to do this or don't have enough time, try to get tips from friends or family about cooking. Also try to start out small with cooking food. Then move on to more difficult things when you get better at cooking the simplier things.

Here's a chicken strip idea for you! They make these at my sons school. Just take a small tortilla add 1 or 2 chicken strips, sprinkle with cheese, tomtao & lettuce. Roll up "wrap" style.

We like these and they make a super quick supper!

For ideas for simple stuff try Kraft Food & Family's website and Quick Cooking magazine.

if i can cook edible food then (almost) anyone can. i woouldn;t be able to coordinate a 5 course dinner without something burning or being done to coincide with the main meal but i am sure you can throw 2 or 3 ingredients together.

try something easy like Hamburger Helper (my favorite is the Beef Stroganoff). all you need to do is brown up some ground meat in a frying pan then follow the directions to add in some water and their noodles and seasonings which they provide. it is one step harder than pouring milk onto your daughter's breakfast cereal.

Anyone who can READ and follow directions can cook.
Get yourself a very basic, easy cookbook. Read the recipe carefully several times before beginning. Then do everything it tells you to do!

Involve your daughter in the learning--I firmly believe everyone should learn to cook at least a few simple meals. Its a good opportunity to bond & learn together.

Good luck, and remember---follow instructions to the LETTER!

Not everbody can cook its ok lol...try to take some cooking lessons...or if you want to, try looking up Sandra Lee's recipies for Semi-Homemade Cooking...most of the stuff is already prepared that she gets...try that see what happens...good luck to you.

Maybe don't even try following a recipie..try making something on your own.
