Optimal resting point for muscle groups if 48 hours

Working out tears the muscle fiber down. This is required for growth to occur. If you are continually tearing them down, they don't have time to heal.

You can work out when they are sore, but make sure that you've given them pleanty of time to rest.

It's probably okay to do sit ups everyday but most muscles you shouldn't work out two days in a row. This is because when you work out you rip your muscles and they need to "heal" which is basically how muscles get bigger.

Not in and of itself, as long as the muscle isn't overworked.
