the term hammer is used sometimes like in the chords for the song Kyle Took A Bullet
I have no idea what this means or how to do it

After you have strummed the chord and are letting it ring, add the indicated finger (e.g. if you've strummed a G chord, you can "hammer on" a C on the first fret of the B string to make a G-sus4 chord). You have to pound down the indicated finger relatively firmly to make the new note ring out among the chord.
