It shouldn't matter, as only the belt is what denotes rank. The gi should be the same for all students though, to promote uniformity.

Depends on the martial art
In judo, the gi color means nothing as is used to differentiate between the two players during the match. Many of the blue gis are reversible.
In other arts like TKD, a black stripe along the collar could designate a belt and is not for white belts. Some schools are very traditional and only allow white gis - most allow about any color you could imagine.
Don't read too much into it - the gi color usually doesnt matter so long as you don't come in with a camo gi or something nuts like that.

Yes there are many differences and some schools don't allow students to wear anything but a certain gi and a particular color. This is partly to promote the idea of class identity and make everyone feel part of the group. Some schools will allow senior students to wear a different uniform once they rise to that rank or instructors oftentimes wear different gis than students to help identify who they are and separate them from the students. I would talk to the instructor and see if he will allow you to wear it.

Some Dojos say there is... But no there is no difference in the color of the gis. Usually a master will get a color that is different to the students but it wont be white or blue :)
Just ask for a blue one... if they give u its all good:P

i think theres no big deal if you want to wear other kind of gi like color blue in your class though white is the traditional, nowadays there are various clubs that uses blue gi either, for some other clubs it denotes some ranking, it depends on their rule.
