There are better meds on the market for migraines, ones you can take and just go on with your life because the relief is almost instantaneous. Maxault is one of them.

I didn't like Imitrex because it made my head feel funny and I had to rest. I also take Neurontin to prevent the headaches. Several anti-depressants have that effect as well, preventing migraines.

Has anything in your life begun stressing you in the past 3 or 4 months? Have your hormones changed in any way? I had to have my hormones tested on 3 different times during the month. Migraines were a problem as was weight gain and depression.

It turned out that my body was producing almost no estrogen:(. But it was making tons of progestin:(. I had to take a different birth control pill and I noticed major changes. Get a better migraine med. and think about preventing them (Desipramine).

Oh, and a major big step for me (I can't believe I forgot this) was to keep my hormones level throughout the whole month. That meant not taking the placebos, just taking the active pills. If your estrogen drops, you can plan on a migraine.

Best wishes

I have the same problem. I was at the point I was getting them 3-4 times a week. My doctor prescribed topamax 100mg. It's actually a medication for seizures, but is now being used for migraines. It has stopped my migraines completely. I haven't had one 6 months.

It does have quite a few side effects. You have to be able to tolerate those. The one I am having a hard time dealing with is the weight loss. I have lost about 15 pounds, which I did not need to lose. So if you need to lose weight, as well as get rid of your migraines, it may be something to talk to your doctor about.

Good Luck!!

I am not a Dr - but I was diagnosed w/ the same thing - Suffered for 4 yrs - finally I tried healthy approach - PLENTY of water during the day - take out almost everything WHITE in your diet (bread, milk, sugars, etc..) Also had to eliminate all caffeine (which means no chocolate! Only real cheese (if necessary) I also started walking/jogging - I swear this cut down on the migraines - Have not had one in months - Also cut down on your stress - let people go w/ their mess... There is also MIGRAINE medication - I tried but it made me TOO sleepy - so I stopped.

You can also be getting rebound headaches from the medicines. From taking the Execedrin Migraine too much it is causing rehound headaches from too much medicine. You have to give the head a break from the medicine for a while or else you will have a headache every day. I take Fiorinal for my migraines and sometimes I have to lay off for a while because of rebound headaches. I actually get shots at the hospital when they get out of control.

It could be stress, food allergy (mother-in-law gets migraines from chocolate), injury to head or neck or back, eye strain from looking at your computer too much (or needing new glasses), or exposure to some chemical (WD-40 will give me one if I get any on my skin).

Try to figure out what has changed in your life recently and then isolate those things one at a time to see what makes a difference. Start by examining what you are doing two hours before you can tell that one is coming. Is there a pattern?

Honestly, it really and truly depends on your age too. Usually around the mid thirties or early forties women (and sometimes men), especially those who experience migraines, will experience "cluster headaches". These are painful headaches, although not neccessarily on just one side of the head as migraines are, that last for 3 to 5 days. These are a unique kind of headache and are difficult to predict or treat. But, thankfully they seem to disappear on their own after a year or so. The best treatment is to do exactly what you have been doing. You can also check into accupressure for temporary relief from the pain.

Well I had the same problem but I found out it was because of something called MSG which is in alot of foods and when I eat to much MSG I get a migraine. Ask your doctor it may be the same thing.

My God, you poor person. Why didn't the Doctor, prescribed or tell you what you should be drinking or eating, so that you can avoid those migraines, you should not have to go Thu that. Everyone, does not go Thu that, you are the first person I ever heard has migraines, as much as you do.
