Those who do that. Possibly insecurity!!!
I wouldn't know for sure what is the reason, but it does seem to me that they are insecure with themselves. Human being is complex, and they are no different. It doesn't matter and shouldn't. You are right.
peace to ALL

Because since the modern age, roughly 200 years ago, science has gained footing as far as an explanation for phenomena previously credited to God. This is not to say that science had no say at all. The word is Greek, meaning knowledge, just as the word "conscience" means "with knowledge".
Human beings have the gift of independent thought and reason. We are above instinct and endowed with that conscience.
As such, the idea of some book or some "deity" saying what we can and can not do is taken as an insult, mainly because we have a conscience and we know right from wrong. We may not always listen to that conscience, but we have it none the less, and ignoring it often results in what we call guilt.
The typical atheist does not see a "god" inspired universe. He or she sees the manifestation of light, time and matter exploded over billions of years and in billions of directions. They see life gaining a tiny foothold in a hostile corner of the cosmos and building itself into one vibrant planet whoes life echoes out into the stars as a beacon saying "Here we are!"
It is a logical way of seeing the universe, liberating if you will, even if it is a bit naive.
The Bible is an open insult to the atheist, telling them that time and matter and energy don't count, only God counts, or only love counts, or only salvation counts. Now because atheists as a matter of fact do not accept the belief that there is a God to begin with, why would they bother with the Bible, the Koran, the Torah, or any other religious writing? If they tend to single out the Bible as complete rubbish, it is only because there are more Christians--about 2 billion--and more Bibles--6 billion--than any other competing religion and accompanying text.
Blocking off the Bible, however, has done them some good. We have subjective interpretations of right and wrong. For instance, it is okay for an atheist to have an abortion, but that same atheist has no problem heading to a protest and telling Bush he should stop killing Iraqis.
Why should he? Is it wrong?
How can it be wrong if right and wrong are subjective? This is not to say all atheists support abortion, but most Christians are opposed to it. I wish more Christians were opposed to the death penalty, however, since doing so is more indicative of a faith whose root is forgiveness.
Not that Bush is pitching for my team, mind you. Bush says he is a Christian, so as a Christian I rebuke him for killing innocent people to make a buck, and I do so based on a shared guideline, the Bible, wherein Christ, whom Bush and I both consider our Lord and Savior, says, among other things, "Love oneanother, and do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
No one can destroy the Word, because the Word became flesh and dwelt among men.
It has spread across the world, in many languages, and every day science is catching up to what God has already told us. I have a few friends who are atheist, and one in particular who I gave a bible to as a wedding gift. He was shocked to find out that the Bible was largely the history of the Jewish people. He is Jewish, of course, and he had no idea, though his mother was a devout follower of Judaism.
My point is that many people who ignore or oppose the Bible have no idea what it says because they refuse to read it. Which is fine. They have every right to do so or not. I have no right to judge them, anyway, because, as Paul told us, judgement is the providence of God alone. We are called to judge within the Church, but not in the world.
Take joy in your own salvation, however, and don't worry about what those against your faith think or believe. Rather, be concerned for those who are lost and willing to be found.

I'm sure that's what a lot of religious leaders say about their books, too. "Everything in it will come true, it will, it will!".
Well, the thing is, not everyone is right. And I've got no reason to believe that YOU are right.
And it does matter that it does not fit my lifestyle--I am an American citizen, and we have freedom of religion here. It would not be right to try to force religion on me in public places. You want your Bible, fine--go home and read it. After all, I don't run around trying to get pro-atheist posters up in government buildings.

Things that the bible claims, but will never happen. jesus will never be desended from all those people in the geneologies; rabbits will never chew their cud, insects will never have four legs, heaven will not come during the time of the disciples, etc. etc. But back to the point, it seems that bible is making a retreat given that religions other than xianity are growing while xianity is shrinking. You put too much faith in the word of man, after all it was written by man and claimed by man to be inspired. So to disagree with the bible means nothing more than disagreeing with man. That is why I don't agree with the word of man, not becuase of unsuitability with my lifestyle.
My prayer: God, save me from your believers.

What are you talking about? Trying to block off the bible? What happened? You sound kind of looney. You might want to add some information and let people know what you are talking about.
You say lots of out of context answers. Yet you do not give any context to base your question on. Do you even know what the word "context" means?

I wouldn't dream of "blocking off" (??) the bible. Everyone should read it. Firstly, appreciating the majority of western art for the last thousand years depends on at least a passing knowledge of the bible (everyone should also read Homer, Ovid, Plato and Sophocles, among others, for the same reason). Secondly, it's the best book I know for persuading people about the evil of religion.
Why do YOU block atheists on Y!A, if you want us to answer your questions? What ARE you afraid of?

Some people are afraid to believe so they deny it. Most people will eventually grow out of something like that. Ive studied a few religions and I am still a non religious person. I look at poeple for who they are through thier actions and morals. Let people be- If they don't believe what you believe, don't be afraid cause thier different than you. Just know who you are and what you believe. People are going to believe what they want reguardless if you try to pound "GOD" into thier head. Don't waste you time-

In what way do you think that Atheists are trying hard to block off the bible ? I am way up in age, and have seen no sighs of bible blocking. Do you have some sort of problem with run-away imagination ?
Peace on you.

Block off the Bible? I've studied the Bible more thoroughly than almost every Christian I meet. In fact, I highly recommend the Bible as a great first step on the path to atheism and enlightenment.
