In the UK there's no set distance, it's just described as "close to and parallel with the kerb". The only legal problem might be if you were so far away that the car causes an obstruction.

Where I live (Alberta Canada) the maximum distance you can park from any curb is 50 cm. or 18 inches..........and in the cities, the Bylaw Enforcement Officers want to keep their jobs, so they give out many tickets, including parking too far from the curb.

In UK: If in a marked out parking bay then within the lines, otherwise so as not to cause an obstruction. This would be opinion of the traffic officer!!

There is no law, provided you are not so far out so as to cause obstruction. So, women 15 inches, men 3 inches.
