At the time, I didn't really think anything of it cause I attended focus (it was a youth ministry that wasn't direct with the school, but we met once a week in the cafeteria to hang out) but now that I think of it...that was just like....so uncool. If I could go back, I would have probably politely refused to accept it (really, I've got two more at home already before this).

But anyway, what do you think about this? Was this pushing it a little too far even if the school didn't actually set up the program, but it was someone's personal project in the graduating class?

Horton, thanks. You are an ignorant cronie. Isn't it a waste to get another Bible when you already have 2 at home?

Personally I would have returned it, politely.

I am actually amazed that they were handed out. What about the Jewish, or Muslim kids? Did they get their own religious books? I am assuming that this was a regular and not religious high school.

My grandson's 5th grade class was offered bibles one day towards the end of school last year. I was furious! I didn't think we allowed the mixture of church and state (this is a public school). When I called the principal I explained that IF they were going to be offering the christian bible, they needed to offer all the other religions holy books ALTHOUGH I wasn't aware that religious stuff was allowed in public school... he just totally didn't get it. Another moron from the South. SO, I called the school district and guess what? THEY didn't get it either! Surprise! Again, school is for learning- like math, english, ya know- and CHURCH, synagogue, home, etc is for learning religion and the two shall not meet. If it was a christian school, then I would expect it, but absolutely NOT a public school. Thank g-d my grandson was smart enough not to accept it

If the school was handing out the Bibles (and it's a public school), then I think they may have overstepped. They should have handed out something more immediately useful, anyway--like a good dictionary/thesaurus set.

If a group apart from the school was giving gifts to the graduates, then I don't see a problem. No tax dollars went to it.

My h.s. thank goodness did not allow that. What they could not control however, were people standing *just* off the property line handing out books to the students leaving the parking lots. I accepted one once-it was a pocket version-just to see how it was alike/different than the other bibles I had read/seen. After that I said no thank you and they were fine with that. I don't mind people handing out bibles as long as everyone else is ok with me handing out pamphlets on atheism or dawkins books.

We were given Bibles too, but you could pick the version, you could choose to have a Quran or other holy book instead, or you could opt not to get one all together. I think it's just done because it's a tradition.

Enjoy your Bible -- or next time you go to a motel, leave it next to Gideon's. Up to you. When there's no harm involved, accept a gift.

It was a FREEBIE!!

I would just give to someone else, unless it had my name in it.
