I find it sad that so many people believe that money tithed goes into nothing but a preacher's pocket. I know that in some cases that's true. But what I find sad is that the obvious negative experiences of some people have seemingly turned them away from all christian churches.

I'm Lutheran, and I have been a member of my particular church since 1985. I know for a fact that the money that comes in does not simply go into the pockets of the ministers. The church is run by all the people who belong to it. Everyone receives an annual report that breaks down how much money came in (and from where), and how much money went out (and to where).

Sure, the pastors receive salaries, but they certainly won't get rich from it. The church secretary gets a salary, and that's about it. Everything else is done voluntarily by church members. For example, I was one of the Sunday School teachers for several years.

The money is allocated, after basic bills like rent, heating, electricity, etc., to the people, to help them in many ways. As I mentioned, there is Sunday School. Teachers do not get paid, but supplies are needed, such as age-appropriate books, art supplies, basically anything needed to teach children from ages 3 to 16.

Then there is the morning breakfast program for feeding the homeless. All who work with this program are volunteers, but money is needed for food, etc., enough for about 200 people each breakfast.

We also have a once-a-week dinner program for people who have AIDS. It costs a lot to feed about 300 people dinner. Then after dinner, they get to go to the "store," tables that have been set up & are covered with cans & boxes of food that the people can take — and people are not greedy; they take what they need only. They also can take clothing that they need (the clothing is donated to the church).

There is an outreach program for the elderly & sick who cannot get to church any more. Ministers go to the homes of these people to do a private service and give them communion, plus they do what they can to help them.

There are other programs, but you get the idea. The money goes back to the community.

So, yes, I would give money to God. I can't say it would be 10% because it would probably be more. I would give some directly to my church & other Lutheran churches, so they can help people in many ways.

Some ask why does God need money. God, Himself, does not need money, but His people here on earth do. He wants us to love each other & to help each other. So, tithing, or giving money to God, doesn't necessarily mean giving it to the church. There are so many suffering people who need help.

There are legitimate organizations that help people in need. I would certainly donate a hefty sum to St. Jude's Childrens' Hospital. That hospital turns away NO child who needs help; so they need our help. God works through people, so we do His work when we help others with gladness in our hearts.

There are many other ways to help people in need, and I would do that.

I would also help God's creatures, such as the dogs and cats. There are many shelters around the country that subsist on donations. There are rescue organizations that find & save homeless cats & dogs. There are no-kill shelters that keep the animals, even if they are not adopted.

So, there are many, many ways to give money to God, and if I won the Lottery, yes, I most certainly give much of the money to Him.

Yes- in the form of helping one of my clients who one of her twins has a brain tumor.
Yes - In buying food to stock the shelves of our local assistance ministries in town.
Yes - Free spay/neuter/ vaccination program for the pets of the elderly.
Yes - help fix a dilapidated home of a poor family.
Yes - to help a friend pay her back property tax and get her and her daughter new clothes.
Yes - to help an elderly person pay their electric or heating bill for a year.
Ect Ect Ect - these are my tithes. I would never pay "tithes" to a church but put the money to work where it needs to be. Thank of it like this.............
why do you need new pews when many children in your community are probably going to sleep tonight without a bed.
Why does the church need new stained glass windows when there is a family living in a home that most of the windows won't open or close or are missing.
Why does your church need a brand new fellowship hall and kitchen if you are not going to use it to feed the hungry other than the paritioners? Why does the choir need new robes when God hears you fine even if you were nude.
Look people, I have nothing against Christianity just organized religion. Why "tithe" at the church to pay a pastor to spread the word of God when God "called" him to do it? God didn't get him that nice new Cadillac he is driving the tithing did. God didn't give him that nice new suit he gets each month your tithing did. Jesus lived with nothing and yet he had many followers and lived among his disciples on the road and anywhere he was welcomed. How many pastors do you know that do that now? Put your money where it will do the best not where someone else makes the decisions when it comes to doing "Gods work".

The Rolling Stones George Thorogood The Who Led Zeppelin Bob Segar Bruce Springsteen The doorways Foo warring parties Steve Miller Band Nirvana Tom Petty Aerosmith they might desire to be legends who replaced the face of track. Who all human beings can sing a nicely-loved lyric of their music almost no remember what age team. Your record is of bands you like, mine is a especially precise record. some could be taken off and altered yet Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, Nirvana... you may not take them for it. primary's better.

Yes, because the Bible clearly says that 10% of our earnings should be given for tithes. I don't belong to a church at this time (and that's still not an excuse), but I believe that I should be tithing 10% like the Bible says.

Of course I would. Not only that, but I would ask God what He wanted me to do with all of the money, not only 10% of it. If He blesses me with a large sum of money, it will be used however He sees fit.

yes...not to church or any religious institution...but, I would give away...probably more than 10% to worthwhile causes.

I think churches do not properly handle offerings and tithes today...they are too busy building multi-million dollar buildings....rather than doing the work of God, by helping the poor and less fortunate.

I would rather give 10% to someone who needs it more like barney or some pirates and maybe that cat that lives in the cardboard box next to my house.

How do you give God money at all? Do you write a cheque to "God" and somehow the funds magically disappear from your bank account?
