Some do. But religion is not necessarily Godliness (transformation in nature, character and personality like God).
Religion was used to enslave people too. Jesus NEVER minimized or demeaned women in ANY way. Read THE BOOK and see. Anyone who wants to have power over others will use mind, will, emotions and spiritual beliefs to do so. The men who want women to submit in a misogynist way never seem to find the part where THEY are to be SUBMITTED to God. Only a man with God traits will not abuse power or authority. Which shows you the REAL problem. Generally MEN are not submitted to God yet they want women, children employees etc under their thumb.

You used the correct word religious and not Christian. The Bible does say that but read the verses before and after to get the full meaning. What most religious people do is use parts of verses to say what they want. When ever you hear a person quote a verse or two from the Bible then go read it for yourself, never take what man says but take what the Bible says.

I don't think it's *religious* men who use the Bible as an excuse to be misogynists. Rather, *misogynistic* men use the Bible as justification for their behavior.

My brother-in-law, for example, is very religious. He takes seriously the teaching that a man is to love his wife as Christ loves the Church. Our faith holds to the belief that Christ loves the Church enough to lay down his life for it. Because of this, I have no doubt that he'd sacrifice himself for my sister without hesitation. He'd also move heaven and earth to see her happy. He does not use his religious beliefs to keep my sister "in her place." Rather, he takes seriously the religious dictate that he is to cherish her above all things except for God.

Read what St. Paul says, a husband should love his wife so much that he should be willing to die for her. Jesus said, a man and wife become as one flesh. You couldn't get more equal than that. Doesn't sound much like misogyny to me.

Catholics regard a human woman 'Mary' as having the highest position in Heaven next to God. this is hardly a doctrine of male domination.

The bible was written in a primitive male-dominated society where women were treated more like possessions than people. It is not surprising that women in the Bible are treated badly, and that some modern Christians use these passages to excuse their misogyny.

You confuse a prediction of what would happen with a causing it to happen. God knew that the results of sin would be pain in childbirth and dominiation by men. He simple warned Eve of that fact.

God did, however, before they ate, state what his punishment for doing it would be...that they would die.

The way in which men have treated women is man's fault, not God's.

Try reading God's instructions on how to treat a woman sometime. He says to "love her as you love your own body", to "love her a Christ lived the church and gave himself for it", to "be submitted one to another", and to treat her as "a joint heir of the grace of God".
