The can is not bulging or any the worse for wear but on the top is stamped, "BEST IF USED BY: DEC, 2005." Throw it away? Any way to tell after opening if it's all right to eat?

Smell and sight. If it looks bad or smells bad dump it.

Why take a chance? Go through your sofa and you'll probably find enough change for another can.

why not just take it back to Publix? they're really good about this kind of thing. just tell them you need to exchange.
