an UNDERGRADUATE is a student who has not yet completed their first degree.
If you have completed your degree successfully but not yet gone through graduation, you are called a GRADUAND.
When you have gone through graduation, you become a GRADUATE of the university.
If you return to do a higher degree you are a POSTGRADUATE student.
Hope that helps.

You are an undergraduate student at the moment and postgraduate student by and by. The word for an undergraduate who has passed his finals and is about to graduate is "graduand". The only place where one comes across that last word is degree ceremonies. The word graduate comes from the Latin word for step "gradus", so logically an undergraduate has not reached that step and a postgraduate has passed it.

In some educational systems, undergraduate education is post-secondary education up to the level of a Bachelor's degree. In the United States, students of higher degrees are known as graduates.

As everyone else has said, before receiving a bachelor's degree, a student is called an undergraduate. After a student receives their degree, and they are out in the world, they call themselves "alumni" or "alumnae." It is usually shortened to "alum."
