Foothill Cities along the 210 fwy! Depending on what you can afford!! Got the $$$ La Canada, I would skip Pasadena not really the safest, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Monrovia, Glendora. I live in one of them and it is a 15 min shot downtown (no traffic of course) Great schools (compare the scores)in all of the above (no need for private unless your a spender and need to keep up with the Jone's) Great parks, all have a small downtown, hometown area like farmers markets and concerts in the park and holiday parades. All have own police station (no LA sheriffs ect) that is very important!Aand all have own Fire Dept. All have easy acess to best hospitals Huntington Memorial and Arcadia Methodist. Golf courses, movies, and malls, Rose Bowl and all have great shopping Pavillions, ect.. (You don't find a Food for less) or no name store and the Gold line can get you anywhere you don't want to drive to. Personally the Foothills is the best in the LA especially for families and moderatly priced compared across the county.

Maybe somewhere in (south) Orange County (Irvine, Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach) You gotta have lots of money to live in these places, but they are very nice.

Safe and nice in L.A. = EXPENSIVE. So if you have the money - Brentwood or Santa Monica to the west, Manhattan Beach to the southwest, Irvine to the south, Pasadena, Burbank and Glendale to the north.
