Yorkies hair get longer and thinner as they get older. It basically gets more silkier. However, you can keep a yorkie looking like a puppy forever by taking them to a groomer and asking for a traditional puppy cut. They cut the hair so that it looks scruffy and playful, instead of perfect like a show dog.

Adult Yorkie hair is soft and silky. Even if you cut it short. It still looks different than puppy look.

Are you an experienced groomer?

You need to take your dog to be groomed every 4-6 weeks. Don't attempt to cut/shave hair yourself, unless you know what you're doing. Far too many "do it yourself" owners end up cutting skin, and giving their dogs wounds that require stitches.
