basically, go anywhere but Times Square, SoHo, Herald Square, Midtown West or East, Central Park, South Street, Battery Park, etc. Avoid these places and check out the list of areas i mentioned, you will def get to see the real NYC

That's a really vague question.
The NY Public Library on 5th and 42nd isn't very touristy.
Neither is the bike path along the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn.
Or Flushing Meadow Park in Queens.
There is City Island in the Bronx.
or
Clove Lake Park Stables in Staten Island.

you can go to the village which is located on west 4th st, i think you can take either the A train or the 1 train. There is great shopping around there and great resturants!

Go to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Not overly touristy, but guaranteed to please your taste buds. Arthur Avenue has the best Italian restaurants and bakeries in NYC. Which one? So many good ones tough to choose among the many.
