Jesus´s action in allowing himself to be crucified when he could prevent it (after all he was God or so some people say, so he could do anything ) was surely suicide in some form. Preachers always tell us to be like Jesus. So should we commit suicide too?

If I walked through some dodgy area at dead of night and was accosted by some guy with a knife or gun who threatened to kill me, and I could escape but chose not to, wouldn´t that be suicide?

The whole point of Jesus allowing the Romans to carry out his Crucifixion was to destroy the illusion of death to mortal man.You missed the ending of the story. Jesus lived. So how does suicide enter the picture?

From a Christian standpoint, he did not commit suicide. I myself would lay down my life if it was the only way to save my daughters, and that is how Christianity portrays the situation.

In fact, in the garden, he made it clear that if there was ANY way to save others without him dying, he wanted to live. Any parent in the world probably understands this. I sure don't want to die, and I would try to maneuver every way possible to live, until the last moment when I had to make the choice.

If I were home and someone broke in, I would first try to get my family out safely and quietly. If that didn't work, I would try to kill the intruder (hey, self defense), but if it came down to it, I would put myself in the way hoping that I could buy time for my family to escape. But it would be only as a last resort that I would give up my life.

From a Christian perspective, that's basically what happened.

It was not suicide. It was sacrifice. Like the police officer who takes a bullet to save the lives of tohers, or a solider who jumps on a hand grenade to save the rest of his platoon.

If Jesus had been able to prevent his crucifixion, it would have cost the souls of countless multitudes across eternity. It would have been the same as a person who runs when he could have saved others by a act of courage.

Beside, if someone else kills you, it is not a suicide. It is murder.

Jesus died for the sins of the world. He didn't want to die, but he was doing the will of His father, whatever that may be~ This is an irrelevant question. And if you had truly read and understood Jesus' crucifixion you wouldn't have asked this. I don't want to be sarcastic, because that is not the love of God. But I just hate it when people undermine all that Jesus did for us sinners. God bless~

Yes, He layed down His life, but was to save us all from a certain eternity away from God. That is the not the same thing as running into a guy with a knife and not getting away from him. It might be if he had your friend, spouse or child and you put yourself in danger to save them. Jesus spoke in the Bible about the kind of love that one has who lays their life down for a brother.

Adam was created perfect in the eyes of God, but after he sinned his off spring were all born imperfect.

1st Centry Christians in order for their prayers to be heard they had to sacrifice a young lamb to pray to God.

In order to pave an easier way for humans to Salvation a perfect being on the same scale as Adam (when he was perfect) was needed to sacrifice himself for humans. Jesus was that person.

When Jesus died humans no longer had to make sacrifices to God for their prayers to be heard. Jesus knew exactly what he was doing. The scriptures say that he did it with a willing heart in order for us to get closer to God. Three days after he was resurected in spirit form and returned to his father.

Therefore he didn't commit suicide, because he fulfilled the purpose he came to earth to do, and that was in order for us to live.

yes, because he was expressly told NOT to go to Jeruselum for the Pesach holiday because of the reactions he brought out in people- mobs of both supporters and detractors. But he went anyway, knowing what his fate would be if he were caught. No we shouldn't commit suicide- that's just stupid- kind of like Jesus pushing his cards in Jeruselum

obviosly you dont know or understand the trinity. because jesus died for me, i live under grace... i dont have to walk around everday wondering "am i good enough?" "does he really love me?" "i believe in him, but will i really go to heaven?" "i do so many things wrong still, i just dont get it, AM I GOOD ENOUGH?"
thank god for grace...i have to beat that into my head sometimes.. then when it gets there, i just fall in love with him all over again. and the tears come, the fear leaves, my days are soft, my evenings are quiet and peaceful, and my sleep is restfull. grace, im reminded, tells me that no matter how "good" i am, it doesnt matter. you dont clean up before you take a bath do you??? no, you get into the shower all dirty, and you come out clean. its a process, and thats how it is with jesus. he gave himself, in the form of us son, so we could come to him with all our imperfections, and we get all our lives to grow up. its OK... thats called grace.. we are engraved on the palms of his hands.. isa.49:16

if he was willingly being crucified why did he ask his father
"why has thou forsaken me??"
he had no choice but to be crucified because he was found guilty of his crime--just like all the other people who were crucified in those times

Since none of Jesus' followers were present during the trial (remember, they all ran off and hid), how could we know he didn't defend himself?

The answer is easy. The story was invented, based off Isaiah 53.
