If it isn't safe to give full tube, would it be safe to give her a portion of the tube? If so, how much of it should I give her?

For anyone that thinks there's no such thing as a teacup chihuahua:

As if full-size Chihuahuas weren't already small enough -- think Taco Bell dog -- there's suddenly a rise in the popularity of Teacup Chihuahuas!

I've heard that Hartz isn't safe for any dog. Some dogs have died from it. http://www.hartzvictims.org/

Obviously you can't use the whole tube, just like you shouldn't take four times as many pills as your doctor prescribes! I am assuming you want to economize by buying a bigger tube and just using a little bit at a time. Honestly, we do this with our little flea tube treatments (different brand, can't remember right now), splitting them up between the pets because it seems less expensive than buying a tube for each of them every time they need a treatment. I worry about storing the tubes once they've been opened -- perhaps the unused portion might go bad or spoil. I would call your vet and ask about it, because your margin of error is extremely slim with such a petite animal. If you dispense just a touch too much you could probably make him sick or burn his skin (I'm assuming it goes on the skin). It's worth a call to a professional to avoid hurting this little creature. At the very least, you could call the company's customer service line. There should be a phone number on the package.

#1-- TALK TO YOUR VET

I am a vet tech and our clinic and our vets DO NOT recommend anything sold over the counter. You can KILL your pet with an over dose by buying a product not right for him. Hartz is not a good idea, I've seen many overdose cases with it. MANY companies make flea drops for toy dogs (under 5lbs) Try Revolution, you can get it at your local vet and I know they make a size for under 5lbs. IF you don't have the money for that it is possible to split tubes. If you do a search on google there are sites that tell you how to figure out how much of what product is proper for your dog. I do strongly recommend that you talk to your vet and buy a product from them. I assume that your dog is inside and you'll probably only need to use the product April thru Sept. So cost of year round treatment can be eliminated.

it is not the getting into the bloodstream it somewhat is the priority - all flea spot-ons try this, different than for Frontline and benefit (they do no longer manage any inner parasites so as that they do no longer could). Generall drugs needs to get into the bloodstream to artwork! it is the chemical in Hartz it somewhat is risky, no longer its mode of action. it is not purely Hartz, it is maximum products bought in puppy shops. puppy shops are not approved to sell the right chemical ingredients for flea treatment - something you hit upon in save is purely going to be a undemanding pesticide which you won't be able to anticipate to artwork. Take the Hartz back to work out in case you may get your a refund - and in case you're at it, ask the individuals on the puppy save in the event that they're conscious of the character f the flea products they sell! Get some applicable treatment, like Frontline, benefit or Revolution from a vets. those are risk-free and that they artwork. in case you're nonetheless no longer keen on the full 'into the bloodstream' component, bear in mind Frontline maintains to be on the exterior. Be very careful of flea drops on very small breeds it is very easy to poison them I would use cat drops honestly for kittens sometimes its not recommended that flea treatment for adult cats are used on kittens a tea cup chihuahua also has a very fine coat a light dusting of flea powder for cats and kittens on a smooth brush would work just as well. I wouldnt reccomend the whole tube for a portion put 1 drop on a cotton bud then rub the cotton bud on the back of the neck and the base of the tail be very careful your dog also has sensitive skin

NO.

Fact is, Hartz shouldn't be used at all - it's not a proper flea treatment, it's just random insecticide and it's caused a lot of reactions and deaths in animals - and it doesn't even work very well! Don't waste your money.

Do not risk overdosing your dog with this rubbish. Never rely on petshop treatments - go to a vet and get the proper stuff, like Frontline.

As someone very wisely said - NEVER trust the advice of strangers over the internet!!

You'll waste your money on Hartz products, go with Frontline its a little more pricey but very much worth it in the long run.

Hartz is NOT a safe product to use at all (nor is any OTC flea product)!!!!!!

OTC flea products cause skin irritation, skin burns, neurological issues, seizures and death.

Get your flea products from a vet.
