the best thing to do is just be there.
as simple as that, be by her side.
the feelings will pass and everything will return to normal.

Wow, it's always really hard to see something like that, especially if it was the first time she'd ever seen one. I've never seen a fatal crash happen, thank God, but I have had to drive by a couple of them after they'd already happened. (Once, I actually saw the body covered with a sheet!) It can really mess with your mind and give you some nightmares and such. I would imagine that actually seeing one happen would send a person into shock and maybe have them ponder such existential topics as the meaning of life, what's it all for, etc. It was only a few days ago, as you said, so I think at this point, just let her know you're there for her if she wants to talk about it, and if she'd rather not, just let her know that it's OK. If she doesn't come out of her depression within a few weeks, though, I would let her family/friends know what's going on and see if you can all maybe persuade her to talk to a therapist who can help her work through her feelings. I do think she'll likely bounce back from this after a little while, after the initial shock has worn off. Best of luck to you both.
